LFCandNing Sun b468a6b51e fix(partition): coerce partition exprs against the batch schema before routing [Backport release/v1.3] (#9780)
fix(partition): coerce partition exprs against the batch schema before routing (#9752)

* fix(partition): coerce partition exprs against the batch schema before routing

Batch partition routing (MultiDimPartitionRule::split_record_batch) builds
physical expressions via PartitionExpr::try_as_physical_expr, which did no
type coercion. After widening the time index unit (e.g. ms -> ns via
ALTER TABLE ... MODIFY COLUMN ts TIMESTAMP_NS), the persisted partition
bounds keep their original unit, so evaluating the bounds against the batch
failed with:

  Invalid comparison operation: Timestamp(ns) < Timestamp(ms)

Row inserts were unaffected because find_region compares Values and
Timestamp::cmp converts units; scans were unaffected because
PredicateGroup::new coerces the region partition expr against the region
schema first.

Coerce the logical partition expression against the evaluation schema in
try_as_physical_expr before creating the physical expression, the same way
PredicateGroup does. This also covers the region partition filter built for
SST pruning (src/mito2/src/sst/parquet/reader.rs), which shares this
conversion.

Fixes #9747

* test: regenerate change_col_type result after comment update

The ts_widen_part comment in change_col_type.sql was reworded after the
result file was last generated; sqlness echoes SQL comments into the
result, so the stale comment made the case fail. Regenerate it.

* fix(promql): apply offset to subquery evaluation window (#9364)

* fix(promql): apply offset to subquery evaluation window

`prom_subquery_expr_to_plan` destructured `SubqueryExpr` without reading
`offset`, so `<subquery>[range:step] offset <d>` planned exactly the same
window as the un-offset form and silently returned data for the wrong time
range. The plain vector/matrix-selector paths already threaded the offset
through `selector_to_series_normalize_plan` and `RangeManipulate`.

Shift the inner evaluation window back by the offset and pass the offset to
the subquery's `RangeManipulate`, which maps the inner samples forward onto
the evaluation timeline before bucketing them into ranges. This matches
Prometheus, whose `evaluator.subqueryTimeRange` evaluates the inner
expression over `(start - offset - range, end - offset]` and whose
`evalSubquery` then hands the samples to the outer range-vector function as
a `MatrixSelector` that still carries the subquery offset. An offset on the
inner selector composes additively, as `subqueryTimes` documents.

`RangeManipulate`'s protobuf message has no offset field and recovers it on
decode from an immediately underlying `SeriesNormalize`. Since
`RangeManipulate` is commutative in `dist_plan` and can be pushed below a
`MergeScan`, insert that carrier node so the offset survives distributed
planning instead of decoding as zero.

Known divergence, unchanged by this commit: Prometheus anchors subquery step
points on absolute epoch multiples of the step, while GreptimeDB anchors them
on the evaluation start. The two agree whenever the offset is a multiple of
the subquery step; the added sqlness cases stay within that range.

Closes #9330

* docs(promql): correct the subquery-offset rationale and pin the histogram shift

Follow-up to e132c267, which stated two things inaccurately and left one
path untested. No behaviour change beyond a conditional clone.

The `SeriesNormalize` carrier was described as existing "so the offset
survives distributed planning", implying standalone is unaffected. That is
wrong. `local_offset` is read on the substrait decode path
(`range_manipulate.rs`, `instant_manipulate.rs`), and GreptimeDB routes
PromQL plans through `MergeScan`/substrait in standalone too -- the
standalone results `promql/encode_substrait.result` and `precisions.result`
both show `MergeScan [is_placeholder=false, remote_input=[...]]`. Deleting
the carrier therefore empties subquery-with-offset results in standalone as
well, while `count_over_time_subquery_with_offset` keeps passing because it
asserts the pre-serialization plan. Say so at the node, so the next reader
does not remove it believing standalone is safe.

The carrier is also not semantically inert: `SeriesNormalizeStream::normalize`
shifts native histogram `start_timestamp` payloads by `offset`. On the
subquery path that runs on a computed inner result, on top of any offset the
inner selector already applied, and nothing pinned it. It is consistent --
`RangeManipulate` moves the millisecond time index forward by the same
`offset_ms` -- so the distance from a histogram's start timestamp to the
sample carrying it, which reset/rate detection reads, is invariant. Add
`subquery_offset_shifts_histogram_start_and_time_index_together`, which
executes the subquery's node stack over native histogram samples for a
zero and a non-zero inner offset. It cannot be a sqlness case: native
histograms are a struct column with no SQL type or literal
(`sql_data_type_to_concrete_data_type` rejects structs) and the sqlness
runner speaks only MySQL/Postgres, so such rows only arrive over
gRPC/remote-write v2.

The divergence note blamed sub-step offsets. Measured, that condition is too
narrow: an unaligned evaluation timestamp alone diverges, with no offset at
all -- `sum_over_time(fine[20s:10s])` at t=57 samples 47s and 57s here
against Prometheus's 40s and 50s. The real condition is that
`(start - offset)` is not a multiple of the subquery step, and it is
pre-existing: the committed `tql eval (359, 359, '1s')
sum_over_time(metric_total[60s:10s])` case is already an instance of it
(`359 - 60 + 10 = 309`). Reword the comment and the sqlness header
accordingly. A sub-step offset stays accepted: `foo[20s:10s] offset 5s` is
valid PromQL, erroring on it would be a regression and would not close the
gap anyway. This repo has no PromQL-compatibility documentation page, so
there is nowhere else to record it.

Also stop cloning the series key columns when there is no offset, and stop
the `offset 0s` sqlness comment implying its parser error is evidence about
this fix -- the same message comes from a `u32` overflow in
`promql-parser`'s shared duration check (`offset 9999999999d`).

* refactor(promql): trim subquery-offset comments and tests per review

Shorten the planner and sqlness comments to the semantic contract, build
`SeriesDivide` with a clone instead of an `Option`, and drop the

* fix(promql): record the subquery offset as the range fold offset

The subquery's `RangeManipulate` now shifts the payload timestamps by the
offset, so `predict_linear` over an offset subquery must recover the
evaluation time with that offset instead of 0.

* ci: retry failed nightly release on following weekdays (#9394)

Previously the nightly release was scheduled only on Mondays, so a
failed run left users without nightly builds for a whole week.

Now the schedule triggers every weekday at 00:00 UTC, but the release
only proceeds when the latest published nightly release is older than
NIGHTLY_RELEASE_MAX_AGE_DAYS (5) days. The check runs in
allocate-runners before any EC2 runner is allocated, and gates all
schedule-driven jobs (including the Slack notification, so a skipped
nightly is silent). Tag pushes and manual dispatches are unaffected.

* fix(promql): align timestamp(), label_join and label_replace with Prometheus semantics (#9385)

* fix(promql): align timestamp() and label_join with Prometheus semantics

- timestamp() over a selector reports the selected sample's timestamp, without adding the offset.
- timestamp() over any other expression reports the evaluation time instead of the input value.
- label_join that overwrites an existing label rejects duplicate label sets at runtime.

Signed-off-by: Dennis Zhuang <killme2008@gmail.com>

* fix(promql): align label_replace and label_join edge cases with Prometheus

- label_replace leaves non-matching series unchanged instead of copying the source value into the destination label.
- label_replace may overwrite an existing label; duplicate label sets are rejected at runtime like label_join.
- label_join with no source labels removes the destination label, and an empty source label name is rejected.
- Empty label values produced by these functions are NULL, the same as an absent label.

Signed-off-by: Dennis Zhuang <killme2008@gmail.com>

* fix(promql): join absent labels as empty strings in label_join

concat_ws skips NULL arguments together with their separator, so a label that is absent (NULL) dropped its separator, e.g. label_join(label_join(vector(1), "a", "", "missing"), "b", "-", "a", "a") lost b="-". Read every source label as coalesce(label, '') like label_replace does.

* fix(promql): skip rows without a sample in timestamp()

timestamp() replaced the input fields with the timestamp before the empty-value filter ran, so a row whose fields were all NULL got a timestamp, e.g. timestamp(-m) for a NULL sample. Filter such rows before the projection, for both the selector and the evaluation-time paths.

* ci: make query regression non-blocking for scheduled nightly releases (#9434)

* ci: make query regression non-blocking for scheduled nightly releases

Scheduled nightly releases no longer gate publishing on the query
regression release test. The test still runs (validation policy stays
'all' for automatic releases) and uploads its report, but any result -
failure, timeout, cancellation, or skip - no longer blocks image
publishing or the GitHub release for schedule-triggered runs.

Since reusable-workflow caller jobs cannot use continue-on-error, the
gate is relaxed at the consumers instead: the if conditions of
release-images-to-dockerhub and publish-github-release now also pass
when github.event_name == 'schedule' regardless of the query-regression
result. All other gates (runner allocation, artifact builds,
prepare-release-validation) are unchanged.

Tag-push and manual-dispatch releases remain fully blocking unless a
skip policy is explicitly chosen via the release_validation input.

* fix(operator): bound FlowMirrorTask pending rows to prevent frontend OOM (#9421)

* fix(operator): bound FlowMirrorTask pending rows to prevent frontend OOM

When flownode is slow or unreachable, FlowMirrorTask::detach spawns
unbounded tasks that each pin a full insert batch for ~10s (gRPC
timeout). With continuous writes, in-flight memory grows unboundedly
(throughput x 10s x peers), causing frontend-write OOMKill and a
million-per-hour ERROR storm.

Add a MAX_MIRROR_PENDING_ROWS cap (1M rows) on Inserter: detach
fetch_adds the batch's row count before spawning; if the cap is
exceeded the reservation is rolled back, the batch is dropped, a
DIST_MIRROR_DROPPED_ROW_COUNT metric is bumped, and a warn is logged
instead of spawning. On normal completion the reservation is released
in both success and error paths.

This keeps core writes alive while degrading flow mirror writes to
best-effort, which is the intended trade-off: protect the primary
insert path at the cost of possible flow aggregation gaps.

* fix: address review - balanced reservation, gauge race, log rate limit

P1: Compute pending_rows() from actual per-peer payloads in
self.requests instead of the pre-fanout num_rows field. This fixes
under-reservation for same-table multi-region batches and over-release
in multi-flownode fanout. Each peer task now releases exactly its own
share so reservations and releases balance.

P2: Replace load+set gauge publication with add/sub symmetry.
reserve_mirror_pending_rows does fetch_add + gauge.add, release does
fetch_update + gauge.sub, eliminating the stale-value race.

P3: Rate-limit the dropped-batch warning to at most once per 10s via
MirrorDropLog (atomic compare_exchange), accumulating batch/row counts
between reports.

* test: fix race in dual-peer test - wait for gauge release before unlocking

The dual-peer test previously only waited for the pending budget to
return to its start value before releasing MIRROR_METRIC_TEST_LOCK.
But release_mirror_pending_rows moves the budget before the gauge, so
a worker's gauge.sub could still be in flight when the next test
acquires the lock and records its baseline, polluting the result.

Now waits for both pending == start AND gauge == gauge_before.

* fix(operator): preserve instant writes and limit mirror failure logs

Reject saturated requests containing instant-TTL rows with the existing retryable write-admission error before mirror or datanode dispatch. Keep normal source-table inserts independent of best-effort mirror drops.

Reuse a smaller process-wide event limiter for both dropped batches and failed peer tasks, reporting at most once per 10 seconds with failure count, peer context, and error chain. Cover actual mirror construction, mixed and instant admission, fast/slow peer shares, failed-task release, and log concurrency.

A comparison filter's projection has no table name, so after the join its

* test(promql): cover label_replace normalization with distinct series (#9485)

The duplicate-label-set rejection must not fire when a label rewrite keeps
every series distinct through another label. Normalizing mixed histogram
boundary representations (`10.0` -> `10`) while `instance` still differs is
the false positive reported in #9444. The check already accounts for it
since it became a per-timestamp row count instead of a planning-time
rejection, but no fixture covered the positive case. Add one, together
with the aggregation variant that produces a genuine duplicate and must
still fail.

* fix(promql): keep metric name for comparison operators (#9332)

* fix(promql): keep metric name for comparison operators

`collect_metric_names` dropped the response `__name__` for every binary
operator except `and` / `or` / `unless`, so comparisons such as
`node_load1 > 5` came back without the metric name. Grafana rendered them
as `{instance="..."}` and alert templates reading `$labels.__name__` got
nothing.

Follow Prometheus' `shouldDropMetricName` / `resultMetric`: arithmetic
operators drop the name, comparisons keep the left-hand name, except when
the comparison returns a bool or is a one-to-one `on(...)` match. A
`group_left` / `group_right` modifier does not reduce the labels, so the
name is kept there.

Both the HTTP PromQL API and the gRPC gateway share
`retrieve_metric_name_and_result_type`, so one fix covers both.

* perf(promql): reduce timestamp payload allocations and use narrow cursor scans (#9417)

* perf(promql): zero-copy timestamp payload for millisecond zero-offset ranges

RangeManipulate rebuilt the timestamp range payload per sample through
wide-precision i128 conversion even for millisecond input with zero
offset, where the input is already millisecond and nothing changes.
That turned a previously zero-copy path into a per-sample loop plus a
Vec allocation, regressing range-function queries.

Reuse the input timestamp array directly when the time index is already
millisecond and the offset is zero. Other units and non-zero offsets
keep the wide-precision conversion (required so ns/us data near the
native type limits stays correct under large offsets).

* perf(promql): vectorize timestamp payload with plain i64

RangeManipulate rebuilt the timestamp range payload per sample through
wide-precision i128 conversion, turning a hot path into a scalar loop
with a Vec allocation. Realistic timestamps and offsets stay far inside
i64, so the wide path is unnecessary.

- millisecond + zero offset reuses the input array with zero copy;
- other units / offsets shift in one vectorized i64 pass (no i128, no
  per-sample Option, no overflow branch).

* perf(promql): check timestamp payload overflow via arrow try_unary

Replace the silent wrapping shift with try_unary + checked_mul/checked_add.
checked arithmetic lowers to a per-lane overflow flag so the single pass
still vectorizes over the dense i64 buffer; any overflow short-circuits to
an error instead of silently wrapping to a wrong timestamp. No i128, no
per-sample Option.

* perf(promql): vectorize cursor scans with i64 fast path

RangeManipulate::calculate_range and InstantManipulate::manipulate
compared every sample through i128 wide-precision arithmetic. For
realistic timestamps and offsets the shifted values stay far inside
i64, so the wide path was pure overhead.

Split both scans into an i64 fast path (checked arithmetic precomputed
once per batch) and an i128 exact fallback. Any input that would
overflow i64 falls back to the i128 scan, keeping window membership
semantics identical.

Verified: 47/47 range_manipulate + instant_manipulate tests, 275/275
promql crate tests, 1612 randomized cases byte-identical to i128 scan.

* refactor(promql): generalize cursor scans and share endpoint precheck

Address review comments on PR #9417:
- Generalize scan_ranges/scan_instants over Nanoseconds (i64/i128),
  eliminating the duplicated scan bodies.
- Extract shared narrow_scan precheck used by both RangeManipulate and
InstantManipulate, with identical checked endpoint logic.
- Trim doc comments to one line; fix factual errors about fallback
trigger (2262 for ms/s, not native type limits).

Semantics unchanged: same cursor algorithm, same overflow fallback,
same i64-vs-i128 selection, same stale/null/tie handling.

Verified: 47/47 range_manipulate + instant_manipulate tests, clippy clean.

* perf(promql): vectorize payload with try_unary and add scan carrier bench

Replace the per-sample i128 payload loop with a single arrow try_unary
pass: i128 intermediate holds any native timestamp shift, only the final
millisecond result must fit i64. This is semantically equivalent to the
original i128 implementation (no silent wrap, no per-sample branching).

Add cursor_scan_carriers A/B benchmark: i64 fast path vs i128 exact
fallback on four workloads. Add five deterministic differential tests
pinning scan_ranges::<i64> and scan_ranges::<i128> to be pointwise
equivalent on boundary shapes (sub-ms samples, fallback triggers,
nanosecond extremes, seeded precision matrix).

Bench (N=4096, 15s cadence):
- payload wall_time 20x15s: 74.94us -> 48.98us (-35%)
- payload wall_time 240x15s: 102.44us
- scan i64 fast path: 10.97us vs i128 19.84us (1.81x)

Signed-off-by: discord9 <55937128+discord9@users.noreply.github.com>

* perf(promql): restore zero-copy payload for ms+offset=0 and fix comment

Restore the zero-copy fast path for millisecond timestamps with zero
offset, guarded by the input column's exact data type (Timestamp
(Millisecond, None)) rather than self.time_unit. The old time_unit guard
would accept a tz-carrying millisecond column and produce a dictionary
value type disagreeing with the output schema; the datatype guard is the
correct check.

Also fix the comment: arrow's try_unary is a fallible kernel that LLVM
cannot auto-vectorize; the win over the hand-written loop comes from
eliminating the per-sample Option/Vec and branches, not SIMD.

Add a regression test with a timezone-carrying millisecond index to
prove it falls back to the try_unary path.

Signed-off-by: discord9 <55937128+discord9@users.noreply.github.com>

* perf(promql): replace try_unary with unary + Cell overflow flag

Arrow's try_unary is a fallible kernel that LLVM cannot auto-vectorize.
Replace it with the infallible unary kernel: the closure is a plain
i64 -> i64 mapping that sets a Cell<bool> on overflow instead of
returning Err per sample. The flag is checked once after the loop.

This removes the per-lane Result construction and lets LLVM vectorize
the shift+truncate sequence. Bench (N=4096, 15s cadence):
- window4x15s: 42.12us -> 28.77us (-32%)
- window20x15s: 48.98us -> 27.68us (-43%)
- window240x15s: 102.44us -> 27.61us (-73%)
- regular_sparse: 90.04us -> 29.20us (-68%)

All cases now run at ~27-29us regardless of window size; the zero-copy
path dominates for ms+offset=0.

* perf(promql): dispatch payload conversion on null_count; drop wall-time bench

Null-free batches (dominant PromQL case) take arrow's vectorizable unary
kernel with a Cell<bool> overflow flag; nullable batches take try_unary so
a NULL slot's arbitrary underlying value cannot raise a false batch-wide
overflow error. Add a regression test exercising both paths.

Remove bench_range_manipulate_wall_time (all-ms zero-offset cases only
exercised the zero-copy path, measuring nothing about the conversion) and
its orphaned helpers; restore the cursor-scan bench helpers it shared.

Signed-off-by: discord9 <55937128+discord9@users.noreply.github.com>

* fix(promql): keep nullable timestamp cursor scans on i128

NULL slots may contain unordered arbitrary values, so the endpoint-only
narrow-scan proof cannot bound their interior timestamp arithmetic. Both
range and instant scans now attempt i64 only for null-free timestamp arrays
and otherwise retain the existing exact i128 path.

Add focused interior-NULL regressions through both active entrypoints,
checking concrete selections and output against the existing wide scan.
The null-free fast path and timestamp payload conversion are unchanged.

source primary keys. Combined with the zero-valued placeholder
timestamp, all output rows shared the same storage identity and were
deduplicated into a single row.

* fix(promql): follow IEEE 754 float semantics in operators and aggregations

- Comparisons: Arrow orders floats totally (NaN == NaN, NaN > +Inf); PromQL
comparisons with NaN are false except !=.
- min/max: skip NaN unless the whole group is NaN. DataFusion's grouped
min/max let NaN replace and be replaced by neighbours, so the result
  depended on input order.
- topk/bottomk rank NaN last.

* fix(promql): keep the nested count rewrite for PromQL min/max

count(min(x) by (l)) was rewritten by count_nest_aggr only for the builtin
min/max names. prom_min/prom_max return NULL for the same groups, so the
rewrite stays valid. Update plan snapshots for the IEEE comparison, sqrt,
topk and min/max changes.

* fix(promql): register prom_min/prom_max in the function registry

Distributed plans split an aggregation into state and merge steps only for
functions whose state function exists in FUNCTION_REGISTRY; prom_min and
prom_max lived in the promql crate, so min/max stopped being pushed down to
datanodes. Move them to common-function and register them before the state
functions are derived.

* test: update sqlness results for PromQL float semantics

Plans and column names now show prom_min/prom_max, the NaN guards of
comparisons and sqrt, and the NaN sort key of topk. round() results follow
Prometheus' formula. Distributed min/max keep the state/merge split.

* fix(promql): keep column names and NULLs in IEEE comparisons and sqrt

Rewriting comparisons as `a op b AND NOT (isnan(a) OR isnan(b))` changed
TQL output column names and turned NULL operands into true for `!=` and
false for the bool forms. Implement comparisons and sqrt as PromQL UDFs
that propagate NULL and report the column name of the expression they
replace; prom_min/prom_max report min/max column names the same way.

* build: keep build inputs checkout-relative for cross-worktree cache reuse

Two small changes so compilations are byte-identical across worktrees
of the same commit and can share a build cache (mbx, sccache):

- src/common/version/build.rs: derive the workspace root relative to
CARGO_MANIFEST_DIR instead of the CARGO_WORKSPACE_DIR injected by
.cargo/config.toml (an absolute path). The env var remains as an
explicit override for the submodule case; the [env] injection in
.cargo/config.toml is removed so the relative derivation is used by
  default.
- Replace three env!("CARGO_MANIFEST_DIR") uses in test/bench code
  (servers prom_decode bench + decode test, common-meta test_util)
with a runtime std::env::var lookup, so the compiled artifact no
  longer embeds the checkout path.

No behavior change: same files are read, same version info emitted.

* ci: benchmark the object store WAL against S3 from an EC2 runner (#9536)

* ci: benchmark the object store WAL against S3 from an EC2 runner

Add a workflow_dispatch workflow that loads the o11ybench agent observability
dataset into a fresh GreptimeDB container per cell and compares three WAL
configurations that differ only in [wal]: Raft Engine with sync_write on the
instance store, and the object store WAL in durable and enqueued mode, with
the data files on S3 in the runner's region for all three. Rounds alternate
the configuration order. A summary reports rows per second, D/R and E/R as
the geometric mean over rounds, append acknowledgement p50 and p99, and the
object store WAL counters. A smoke mode runs the same chain on ubuntu-latest
against the MinIO fixture.

* ci: scrape WAL metrics on failed loads and keep logic out of the benchmark YAML

Scrape the object store WAL metrics before stopping a cell's server whether
the load succeeded or failed, so failed cells keep their stall, poison and
create failure counters. Build the summary from the plan so that cells which
never ran are listed and leave their ratios undefined. Move budget, region,
runtime image, manifest and credential scan logic from the workflow into the
helper scripts, and drive the cell lifecycle in the tests through fake docker
and curl binaries.

* ci: drop redundant required flags from benchmark inputs

* ci: fail a benchmark cell whose metrics scrape fails and zero untouched WAL counters

A load that succeeds without its metrics scrape now fails the cell with exit
code 4 and records metrics_scraped in cell.json. The summary reports an
event counter that never registered as zero when the cell is an object store
WAL cell whose scrape succeeded and created objects, and as unknown otherwise.
Planned cells that never ran are read through the same path as recorded ones.

* ci: register the S3 benchmark workflow for dispatch from its branch

A workflow_dispatch workflow can only be dispatched once GitHub has
registered it, which happens on the default branch or when one of its
triggers fires. A push trigger limited to this branch registers it; validate
runs only for workflow_dispatch, so a push run skips every job.

* ci: delete the benchmark S3 prefix one object at a time

boto3 now sends a CRC checksum instead of Content-MD5 with DeleteObjects,
which the MinIO fixture of the smoke run rejects. DeleteObject needs neither
and the prefix of one run holds at most a few thousand objects.

* ci: default the S3 benchmark to c6id.2xlarge

c7id is not offered in the runner region ap-southeast-1, where DescribeInstanceTypes
rejects it. c6id is the compute optimized x86 family with a local NVMe instance
store that the region offers, with the same 8 vCPU and 16 GiB at 2xlarge.

* ci: drop the registration trigger of the S3 benchmark workflow

The workflow is registered now, so dispatches no longer need a push trigger
on its branch.

Signed-off-by: jeremyhi <fengjiachun@gmail.com>

* ci: fail an S3 benchmark run on EC2 without a local instance store

Without an instance store the Raft Engine WAL of the R cells silently stayed
on the root EBS volume, so the run measured a different baseline. Only a smoke
run may keep it on the root volume now.

Signed-off-by: jeremyhi <fengjiachun@gmail.com>

* ci: let the instance store check fail its workflow step

The step piped wal-disk into tee without pipefail, so a rejected host still

* fix: align fulltext bloom tokens with matches_term and use them for LIKE (#9470)

* fix: align fulltext bloom tokens with matches_term and use them for LIKE

The bloom fulltext index stored tokens that did not follow
matches_term's word boundaries (`_`, ASCII next to Han, Han substrings),
so pruning dropped rows matches_term accepts.

Tokens and query probes now share the character classes of
matches_term, Han runs are indexed as bigrams, and LIKE patterns use the
same probes. The bloom blob is written under a new key; blobs from older
versions are no longer probed. Tantivy no longer serves matches_term.

* feat: rebuild legacy fulltext bloom indexes and probe lower(col)

The manifest records the fulltext bloom version per column, so ADMIN
BUILD_INDEX now rebuilds SSTs whose bloom index predates the current
tokens, and ssts_index_meta shows the version.

Case-insensitive bloom indexes also store the tokens of the whole
lowercased text for rows where it can differ (U+0130, U+212A, sigma),
so matches_term(lower(col), ..) and lower(col) LIKE .. use the index.

* fix(query): accept narrowed nullability in MergeScan remote schema check (#9592)

On append-mode tables a region reports an exact row count. When it is
zero, DataFusion's AggregateStatistics replaces the region-side
__min_state/__max_state aggregate with a non-null struct literal, so the
remote stream advertises the state column as non-nullable. The MergeScan
schema check required equal nullability and failed the query.

Accept a remote field that is non-nullable where the expected field is
nullable, matching DataFusion's own physical-plan schema invariant.
Batches are already rebuilt with the expected schema. Widening is still
rejected, and nested field nullability is still compared exactly as part
of the data type.

* fix(table): stop claiming exact null and distinct counts for append scans (#9593)

RegionScanExec reported null_count = 0 and distinct_count = total_rows for
every column of an append-only table. DataFusion answers count(col) and
count(DISTINCT col) from these statistics, so both returned the row count.
Keep the exact row count and an exact zero null count for non-nullable
columns, so count(*) is still answered from statistics.

dennis zhuang d59725b04a test(sqlness): run environments concurrently and drop redundant restarts and sleeps (#9333)
* test(sqlness): run environments concurrently with external backends

The runner forced both environment and instance parallelism to 1 whenever
etcd/PG/MySQL or an external Kafka was set up, so the standalone and
distributed environments ran one after the other.

Only distributed uses the kv backend, and the two environments use
different Kafka topic prefixes, so they can run at the same time. Keep one
instance per environment, since instances would share the metadata table
and Kafka topics. Runs with a runner-managed Kafka, an external server, a
test filter, or `-j 1` stay fully serial.

- flow_rebuild: drop the R2 block, which repeats R1 from the same state,
and the restart in R5, whose result R1 already asserts.
- flow_advance_ttl, flow_view, ttl_instant: drop sleeps that no assertion
  depends on.
- flow_basic, flow_null, flow_call_df_func: drop the bytes_log section
(covered by flow_insert), a duplicate state_size query, an unchecked
insert, and flushes that run with no new data.
- alter_table_options, skip_wal: share restarts between independent tables.
- session_skip_wal, copy_skip_wal: check every case after a single restart.
Tables copied or inserted with skip_wal = true first get a WAL row that is
truncated, so the check that truncated WAL entries are not replayed stays.
- region_statistics: wait once for the statistics of all three tables.
- build_index_table: fold its index_size checks into
build_index_table_restart, which runs the same fixture and waits.

* test(sqlness): restore session_skip_wal and copy_skip_wal

Checking every case after a single restart dropped two state transitions
the original cases cover: recovering a region whose memtable only held
skipped rows, and writing to the recovered region before restarting again.
Restore the original cases.

* test(sqlness): restore the one-restart check in flow_auto_sink_table

#5112 checked the auto-created sink before a restart and the flow and sink
after it. #5987 moved the restart in front of the first SHOW and added a
second one. Flow recovery only creates the sink when it is missing, so the
second restart recovers from the same persisted state as the first.
Restore the original before/after check with one restart.

* test(sqlness): keep one instance per environment with external store addresses

Instances of the distributed environment share the etcd behind --store-addrs, so run one instance per environment when it is set, same as --setup-etcd.

* test(sqlness): restore the false-branch batch in flow_basic and assert it

The kept batch (20, 22) is all above the threshold. The second batch (10, 23) is the only input that hits the false branch of the CASE and makes the flow compute again. Restore it and check the result, which the original case never did.

Lei, HUANG 6fa1023b7f feat(mito2): introduce TWCS active window compaction (#9011)
* feat(mito2): support independent TWCS trigger_file_num for active and inactive windows

Split the single TWCS trigger_file_num into per-window-state thresholds:
the active window keeps the existing trigger (default 4, legacy
compaction.twcs.trigger_file_num stays a compatible alias), while
inactive windows use a new trigger (default 2). Inactive windows
additionally fall back from balanced L0-only/L1-only candidates to a
progress-making unbalanced mixed candidate so historical windows can
converge; the active window retains the row/byte balance guards.

Signed-off-by: Lei, HUANG <ratuthomm@gmail.com>

* fix(mito2): bound inactive TWCS window convergence by rewrite budget

Inactive windows that cannot compact within one level previously either
stayed stuck (a threshold-qualified but unbalanced level returned no
candidate without trying any fallback) or fell back to a mixed merge
with no balance checks at all, which could rewrite a huge compacted file
to absorb tiny fresh files.

Inactive windows now converge progressively: threshold-qualified
balanced picks, sub-threshold balanced single-level picks, a mixed merge
whose total rewrite must fit in the output file budget, and finally an
L0-only merge without balance checks. Windows that qualify for none of
these are left uncompacted, bounding write amplification.

Signed-off-by: Lei, HUANG <ratuthomm@gmail.com>

* test(mito2): cover TWCS window trigger options in alter_table_options sqlness case

Exercise SET/UNSET of compaction.twcs.active_window.trigger_file_num and
compaction.twcs.inactive_window.trigger_file_num end to end, including
that setting the canonical active key removes the legacy
compaction.twcs.trigger_file_num alias from the table options.

Signed-off-by: Lei, HUANG <ratuthomm@gmail.com>

* fix(mito2): derive TWCS active window from the max-sequence file

The active window was determined by the max event-time window among
level-0 files. Between an L0 compaction removing its inputs and the next
flush landing, level 0 is empty, so the active window transiently became
None and every window fell back to the inactive rules - triggering
full-window convergence merges during ongoing ingestion whose outputs
are then superseded by new data.

Flush and compaction outputs both inherit the max input sequence, so the
file with the highest sequence across all levels always tracks the most
recent write. Use its window as the active window, falling back to the
previous L0-based rule when no file carries a sequence (legacy files).

The new helper deliberately computes window keys with the
assign_to_windows convention (truncate to seconds, then align up),
because the result is compared against window keys produced there; the
older ceil-based helper is kept unchanged for the legacy fallback path.

discord9 27a7047f31 feat: preserve row sequences and support exact sequence-range reads (#8865)
* feat(mito2): support exact sequence range reads

Signed-off-by: discord9 <55937128+discord9@users.noreply.github.com>

* fix(mito2): clear preserve_row_sequence marker on copy_region_from

copy_region_from copies source FileMeta into the target region, which has an
independent sequence domain. The physical per-row sequences in the copied
file belong to the source region only; trusting them in the target would let
an exact sequence-range request replay source-domain rows as if they were
target sequences. Clear the preserve_row_sequence marker on copied files so
the target fails closed with SequenceRangeUnsupported until the scan provably
cannot intersect the copied rows.

Add a regression test: copying from a preserve-enabled source into a
preserve-enabled target clears the marker, and an exact (2, 7] request on the
target returns SequenceRangeUnsupported instead of replaying source rows.

Fixes #8865

Signed-off-by: discord9 <55937128+discord9@users.noreply.github.com>

* style: remove redundant doc comments for exact sequence range options

Approved comment-cleanup-only changes for #8865: drop outdated doc
summaries duplicated on the exact_sequence_range wrapper and the
preserve_row_sequence field, drop pure-restatement doc comments on the
SetRegionOption/UnsetRegionOption PreserveRowSequence variants, and
remove the four structural SQL comments from the alter_preserve_row_sequence
case. No behavior changes; .result regenerated by the sqlness runner.

Signed-off-by: discord9 <55937128+discord9@users.noreply.github.com>

* fix(mito2): fail closed exact reads on copied files and extension ranges

Address review feedback on #8865:

- copy_region_from: clear the source-domain FileMeta::sequence along with
the preserve_row_sequence marker. An unmarked file retaining a stale
source-domain max sequence could be silently skipped by
files_allow_exact_sequence_range() as 'proven disjoint' in the target's
independent sequence domain, dropping rows on exact (C, H] reads. With
sequence=None the capability check fails closed (SequenceRangeUnsupported)
until the copied rows are provably disjoint.
- Engine/reader: reject exact sequence-range reads whenever a follower
region has an extension range provider attached. Extension streams are
returned without a row-level sequence filter, so exactness cannot be
proven; treat the capability as missing (fail closed) instead of emitting
out-of-range rows. The reader also fails closed as defense in depth.

Tests: extend copy_region_from regression to assert the copied file's
sequence hint is cleared; mito2 suite 1148/1148 passing.

Signed-off-by: discord9 <55937128+discord9@users.noreply.github.com>

* style(mito2): use doc comments for test function descriptions

Elevate the block comments describing test functions (in scan_test and
copy_region_from_test) to /// doc comments, matching the convention used
elsewhere in the exact sequence range change. No logic change.

Signed-off-by: discord9 <55937128+discord9@users.noreply.github.com>

* refactor(mito2): extract helpers and trim comment noise in exact sequence reads

PR finalization for #8865 (zero behavior change, full mito2 suite green):

- engine: extract validate_sequence_fences and
sequence_range_unsupported_reason, keeping error variants, check order
and reason strings identical; OSS binds the extension blocker to false.
- handle_copy_region: extract remap_copied_file_meta and
  file_descriptors_for_meta; rename file_ids -> source_file_ids and
  files_to_copy -> new_file_metas.
- compactor: rename max_input_sequence -> known_max_input_sequence,
document the None semantics (empty input vs unknown sequence).
- Remove restating/outdated comments (ScanInput::sequence_range doc
first line, outdated file-pruning note, options test restatements),
compress verbatim comments while keeping why/invariants/contracts.

Verified: cargo check -p mito2 (+ --features enterprise), cargo fmt,
git diff --check, mito2 suite 1148/1148 passing.

* fix(mito2): reject foreign-region SSTs in exact sequence reads

Reading an SST whose FileMeta.region_id differs from the scanned region
means the region's sequence domain is broken (manifest corruption or a
repartition/copy path that leaked a source-domain file). Treat this as
an explicit RegionSequenceDomainBroken error instead of silently
ignoring the file's sequence or falling back to a full scan: the region
is unusable for exact sequence-range reads until the foreign lineage is
compacted away or repaired.

- files_allow_exact_sequence_range / exact_sequence_range now return
Result and propagate the error through engine fence validation and
scan construction (StatusCode::Internal, distinct from the
  fallback-capable SequenceRangeUnsupported).
- Row-level flat-batch sequence filtering rejects foreign-region files
  as defense in depth.
- Engine test asserts the broken-domain error rather than
  Unsupported/fallback.

Signed-off-by: discord9 <55937128+discord9@users.noreply.github.com>

* fix(mito2): never trust unmarked SSTs for exact-range disjoint skipping

An unmarked file's FileMeta.sequence may be synthesized by the
region-edit or repartition paths (committed+1 import barrier), not a
physical max of its rows. Treating it as a whole-file disjoint proof
could permanently skip rows that were never incrementally consumed
once the flow checkpoint passes that value.

Exact sequence-range capability now requires every SST in the region to
carry the preserve_row_sequence marker; any unmarked file disables
exactness (fallback), and the (C, H] file-selection skip also only
applies to marked files. Foreign-region files still raise
RegionSequenceDomainBroken as before.

Signed-off-by: discord9 <55937128+discord9@users.noreply.github.com>

* fix(mito2): scope exact sequence-range capability to the time-selected read set

The exact capability check used to walk the entire SstVersion, so a
single unmarked or foreign-region SST anywhere in the region disabled
exact reads or raised RegionSequenceDomainBroken even when the
request's time range could never touch that file.

Both the engine fence and the scan builder now derive the read set with
shared time-pruning + exact-min/sst-min selection and validate
capability only over the files actually selected: a time-pruned file
cannot contribute a row to (C, H], so it cannot affect exactness. The
existing fail-loud semantics are unchanged for every selected file
(foreign region id -> RegionSequenceDomainBroken; unmarked -> exact
unavailable).

Signed-off-by: discord9 <55937128+discord9@users.noreply.github.com>

* fix(mito2): wash untrusted sequences in compaction and restore barrier skipping

Compaction with any non-preserved input now writes a sequence-less
output: the physical __sequence column is zeroed (the flat format
requires the internal columns) and FileMeta.sequence records the
region-local admission barrier committed_sequence + 1 (falling back to
the flushed frontier). preserve_row_sequence stays false.

Exact sequence-range scans interpret an unmarked file's sequence as an
admission barrier: barrier <= C means flow has already consumed the
whole file, so it is skipped at file level; a missing or newer barrier
fails closed. Foreign-region files stay in the selected read set so the
capability fence still raises RegionSequenceDomainBroken.

This closes the recovery loop: after a region repartition, one
time-scoped fallback consumes the migrated rows, then compaction washes
the untrusted per-row sequences away and exact incremental reads resume
via file-level barrier skipping.

Ning Sun 6f1dd0cb76 feat: allow widening the time index column's timestamp unit via ALTER TABLE, mito2 table only (#8894)
* feat: allow widening the time index column's timestamp unit via ALTER TABLE ... MODIFY COLUMN

Previously MODIFY COLUMN rejected the time index column outright. Now the
time index unit can be widened (Second -> Milli -> Micro -> Nano), which is
lossless for data that fits the target unit: historical data in old SSTs is
cast to the new unit on read by the existing schema-compat layer, and
compaction rewrites it lazily. Narrowing and non-timestamp targets remain
rejected; tag columns keep being rejected. Widening is rejected if any
SST's time range would overflow the target unit's i64 range (e.g.
millisecond -> nanosecond beyond year 2262), since the cast would silently
null those values.

Read-path correctness for old-unit SSTs (verified by new engine e2e tests
and sqlness WHERE queries):

- row-group min/max pruning: parquet statistics of a timestamp column are
raw integers in the file's unit; when the region metadata's type differs
(also the case for altered field columns), stats are now interpreted in
the file's type and converted to the expected type before pruning.
Without this, a new-unit predicate silently pruned whole row groups of
old-unit files (wrong results, rows missing).
- SST-level simple filters are skipped for columns whose file type differs
from the expected type; the predicate is applied by the query layer's
residual filter above the region scan. Also drop the stale
"timestamp columns cannot change type" debug_assert.
- retry idempotency: a same-type ModifyColumnType on the time index
validates as a no-op and `need_alter` returns false, so a retried alter
procedure (region already altered before the previous attempt failed)
  converges instead of aborting forever.

- add TimeUnit ordering and ConcreteDataType::is_timestamp_unit_widening_to
- relax ModifyColumnType validation in store-api and table metadata
- tests: unit tests in datatypes/store-api/table; mito2 engine e2e tests
(flushed SST + new writes + reopen + retry + overflow + predicate scans,
cross-unit dedup, mixed-unit SSTs, compaction); sqlness cases incl.
partitioned table and WHERE filters over old-unit data

- datatypes: keep a representative subset of the widening-matrix asserts
- table: collapse the three single-branch rejection blocks into one loop
- mito2: drop the boundary gt_eq and post-compaction predicate asserts
(covered by the exact-filter regression test and sqlness); drop the
engine-level gt_eq/lt_eq casts (full operator matrix stays in the
  cast_timestamp_unit unit tests)
- sqlness: drop a bare full scan already covered by the filter above it
- shorten function doc comments across datatypes/store-api/table/mito2/
  recordbatch to the essential semantics

* fix: drop physical prefilter for columns whose file type differs

Follow-up to the review feedback on CompatBatch/prune reader/filter
handling for widened time index units.

Between/InList/IsNull predicates are prefiltered by PhysicalFilterContext,
which builds its physical expression against the FILE's schema while the
predicate literals are in the expected (post-alter) unit. Evaluating them
against an old-unit SST raised a cross-unit comparison error (Timestamp(ms)
>= Timestamp(µs)) that failed the whole scan. Physical prefilter predicates
are best-effort pruning hints (the query layer re-applies them above the
scan), so drop the prefilter when the column's file type differs from the
expected type, mirroring the simple-filter strategy.

Verified: Between and a non-rewritten (large) InList on old-unit data no
longer error and filter exactly end-to-end (sqlness), and no matching rows
are lost at the engine level (engine test).

Signed-off-by: Ning Sun <sunning@greptime.com>

* test: add direct unit tests for stats cast and prefilter drop

The two-step stats cast (reinterpret raw Int64 stats in the file's
timestamp type, then rescale to the expected type) and the physical
prefilter drop on file/expected type mismatch were only covered
end-to-end; add localized unit tests so a regression fails at the
exact site:

- stats.rs (previously no tests): RowGroupPruningStats min/max over a
hand-built RowGroupMetaData — passthrough with no expected metadata,
passthrough on same type, and rescale (1000ms -> 1_000_000us, not
1000us) on a widened expected unit
- reader.rs: PhysicalFilterContext::new_opt keeps a Between prefilter
when file and expected types match and drops it on unit mismatch

Signed-off-by: Ning Sun <sunning@greptime.com>

* fix: tolerate mixed time units range cache key coverage check

* docs: flag mixed-unit hazard in the (unwired) series index

The series index stores per-series min/max ts as raw Int64 in the unit
of the region metadata at write time, and the searcher builds its range
predicates from a single per-region metadata. After a time index unit
widen, files of one region would carry mixed units, so a per-file unit
(or an index rebuild on such alters) is required before this index is
wired into scans. Leave notes at both sites.

Signed-off-by: Ning Sun <sunning@greptime.com>

* test: cover mixed-unit compaction for sparse encoding and strict windows

Compaction-path audit follow-up. The compat cast and window math were
already covered for dense regions; add the two remaining e2e scenarios:

- sparse primary key encoding (used by metric-engine physical regions):
widening then compacting mixed-unit files rewrites the old-unit time
index correctly through the sparse compaction compat path
- strict-window manual compaction: each window output trims rows with a
  predicate built in the region's new unit against an old-unit file;
every instant must survive exactly once (no loss, no cross-window
  duplication), rescaled

Also documents the audit finding that Regular ranged (manual)
compaction never trims rows: TwcsPicker sets output_time_range to None
and the request time range only selects candidate windows.

Signed-off-by: Ning Sun <sunning@greptime.com>

* test: cover time index unit change in FlatCompatBatch directly

The compat layer's rescaling of a widened time index was only verified
end-to-end; add direct unit tests for both paths:

- dense: identical units skip compat entirely; a widened unit rescales
the time index column (1000ms -> 1_000_000us, not reinterpreted) while
other columns pass through and the output schema matches the expected
  metadata
- compact sparse (the metric-engine compaction path): same rescaling

Signed-off-by: Ning Sun <sunning@greptime.com>

* refactor: move timestamp unit division into common-time

The exact unit division (UnitQuotient + div_mod_units) is time
semantics, not filter logic; move it next to TimeUnit in common-time
with a compact test covering representable/non-representable values,
negative (floor) instants, and quotient overflow. The ScalarValue
helpers stay in filter.rs since common-time has no datafusion
dependency.

Signed-off-by: Ning Sun <sunning@greptime.com>

* test: compat rescales a widened time index and fills an added column together

The realistic multi-alter sequence (widen at T1, add column at T2,
read a T0 SST) exercises cast and default-fill in the same
compute_index_and_fields pass; assert both in one output batch.

Signed-off-by: Ning Sun <sunning@greptime.com>

* fix: preflight time index widening overflow before any region alters

Address review feedback on the overflow guard:

- preflight: when the frontend operator receives a widening alter on the
time index, run an existence scan (ts outside the target unit's i64
range, LIMIT 1, via the query engine so it covers every region of the
table in both standalone and distributed modes) BEFORE any DDL task is
submitted. A region that fits can no longer commit the new schema
while another region rejects the alter with a non-retryable error.
File and row-group pruning keep the scan cheap when nothing overflows.
The per-region check in mito2 stays as the final guard for data
written after the preflight (the remaining race window); without a
validate-only wire field (region.proto lives in the external
  greptime-proto repo) a fully atomic two-phase validate/commit is out
  of scope here.

- fast path: cast_timestamp_unit returns the filter unchanged when the
literal is already in the target unit, skipping the div-mod rebuild.

Signed-off-by: Ning Sun <sunning@greptime.com>

* fix: address review comments

* fix: address auto review comments

* fix: remove time index widening overflow preflight

Overflow needs timestamps beyond the target unit's i64 range (~year
2262 for nanoseconds), which real workloads never write, so the two
existence scans before every widening alter are not worth the cost.
Region validation already rejects the alter when an SST's time range
overflows the target unit; it now logs the rejection (with the
offending file) and returns a deterministic client-facing message.

Signed-off-by: Ning Sun <sunning@greptime.com>

* test: make sqlness test stable

* fix: log instead of rejecting time index widening overflow

Overflowing values cast to NULL on read but do not otherwise affect
reads or writes, so the alter is allowed; the region-level check now
only logs (with the offending file) when an SST's time range exceeds
the target unit's i64 range.

sribatsha dash 8f5d681e4b feat: support ALTER TABLE SET auto_flush_interval (#8403)
* feat: support ALTER TABLE SET auto_flush_interval

Closes #8394.

Add a new SetRegionOption::AutoFlushInterval variant so that the
per-table auto flush interval can be changed on existing tables
via 'ALTER TABLE t SET ...', following up the CREATE TABLE path
from #8357.

- region_request.rs: parse 'auto_flush_interval' with humantime and
map it to the new variant.
- metadata.rs: persist the value (or remove it, if None) in
TableOptions.extra_options using the same humantime string format
  the engine already expects.
- handle_alter.rs: apply the new interval in
handle_alter_region_options_fast (no memtable flush needed, same
pattern as Ttl) and group the variant with Ttl/Twsc in
  new_region_options_on_empty_memtable.

Tests:
- Two unit tests in metadata.rs covering set and unset-to-None.
- A new sqlness case alter_auto_flush_interval.sql covering
  create-then-alter, alter-then-alter, invalid duration, and
alter on a table that already had auto_flush_interval at create
  time.

Signed-off-by: srivtx <crypticcc101@gmail.com>

* fix: validate auto_flush_interval > 0 in ALTER SET path

Gemini code assist flagged that the request parser accepted a zero
duration, leaving the rejection to the downstream RegionOptions
validation which only fires on next flush. Reject it at parse time
so users get the error immediately at the ALTER TABLE statement.

Also add a '0s' error case to the sqlness test.

Signed-off-by: srivtx <crypticcc101@gmail.com>

* fix: handle SET 'auto_flush_interval' = NULL and add checked-in .result

Address the rest of fengjiachun's review on #8403:

1. Empty value in ALTER SET clears the override (parallels Ttl).
'ALTER TABLE t SET ... = NULL' comes through as value = ''; we
now return AutoFlushInterval(None) so the override is removed
from TableOptions.extra_options, matching the Ttl pattern.

2. Add a unit test in region_request.rs covering the four cases
   (valid, empty-clears, zero-rejected, garbage-rejected).

3. Generate and check in alter_auto_flush_interval.result via
   'cargo sqlness-runner bare -t alter_auto_flush_interval'. Both
the standalone and distributed sqlness jobs now pass locally,
and the test extension covers the NULL-clears path end to end.

d1873ca31d fix(metric-engine): validate column types and require time index in verify_rows (#8018)
* fix(metric-engine): validate column types and require time index in verify_rows

The remote-write path into the metric engine previously bypassed schema
validation. When a row's time index column carried a non-timestamp
datatype (e.g. a string), the request reached mito's ValueBuilder::push
for the timestamp builder and panicked instead of surfacing a typed
error.

Cache the (column_id, data_type, semantic_type) tuple for each physical
column on PhysicalRegionState and use it in verify_rows to:

- reject columns whose datatype or semantic type disagrees with the
  physical region's schema (mirrors mito's WriteRequest::check_schema)
- reject requests that omit the time index column entirely

Field columns stay optional; tag completeness needs per-logical-region
metadata that verify_rows doesn't have and is left to a follow-up.

Fixes #7990.

Signed-off-by: BootstrapperSBL <yvanwww01@gmail.com>

* refactor(metric-engine): simplify PhysicalColumnInfo construction

- Add From<ColumnMetadata> and From<&ColumnMetadata> for PhysicalColumnInfo
so call sites can use metadata.into() instead of repeating the field list.
- Replace the four struct-literal constructions in create.rs, open.rs and
  alter.rs with the conversion.
- In verify_rows, pass &col.column_name to ColumnNotFoundSnafu instead of
cloning it explicitly (snafu's context handles the conversion).

Signed-off-by: BootstrapperSBL <yvanwww01@gmail.com>

* perf(metric-engine): cache time index column name in PhysicalRegionState

verify_rows previously scanned every physical column on each row batch to
find the timestamp column. Since the time index is fixed at region
creation and never changes, stash its name on PhysicalRegionState when
the region is first registered and read it directly from there.

add_physical_columns carries a debug_assert to document the invariant
that alter never introduces a new time index.

Signed-off-by: BootstrapperSBL <yvanwww01@gmail.com>

* perf(metric-engine): borrow physical column names when building name_to_id

On the row-write path we built a HashMap<String, ColumnId> by cloning
every column name out of the physical region's cached state. The map is
scoped to the block that holds the state's read guard, so there's no
need to own the keys.

Switch the map to HashMap<&str, ColumnId> and widen RowsIter::new /
IterIndex::new to accept any key type that borrows as str. Existing
test helpers that pass HashMap<String, ColumnId> keep working through
the Borrow<str> bound.

Signed-off-by: BootstrapperSBL <yvanwww01@gmail.com>

* fix: validate metric rows against physical schema

Cache physical column metadata in the metric engine state so row validation and row modification can use the same source of truth for column IDs, data types, and semantic types.

Validate incoming metric rows against the physical schema before writes. Put requests now require the time index and the expected field column, while delete requests keep accepting primary-key-plus-timestamp payloads by skipping the field completeness check.

Pass physical column metadata directly into RowsIter instead of rebuilding a name-to-column-id map at each call site, and cover the new validation paths with tests for missing time indexes, missing fields, and duplicate field columns.

Lei, HUANG 69870e2762 fix(mito): use 1day as default time partition duration (#6202)
* fix unit tests

* fix: sqlness

* fix/default-time-window:
 ## Add Helper Functions and Enhance Compaction Tests

 - **Refactor Compaction Logic**: Introduced helper functions `flush` and `compact` in `compaction_test.rs` to streamline compaction operations.
 - **Enhance Compaction Tests**: Added a new test `test_infer_compaction_time_window` in `compaction_test.rs` to verify compaction time window inference.
 - **Testing Improvements**: Added `#[cfg(test)]` attribute to `new_multi_partitions` in `time_partition.rs` to ensure it's only included in test builds.

* fix/default-time-window:
 - **Refactor `TimePartition` Struct**: Removed unnecessary comments regarding `time_range` in `time_partition.rs`.
 - **Enhance `TimePartitions` Functionality**: Added a method `part_duration_or_default` to provide a default partition duration in `time_partition.rs`.
 - **Update SQL Test Cases**: Modified SQL operations and expected results in `scan_big_varchar.result` and `scan_big_varchar.sql` to reflect changes in data manipulation logic.

* fix/default-time-window:
 ### Update Time Partition Default Duration

 - **Refactor Default Duration**: Introduced `INITIAL_TIME_WINDOW` constant to define the default time window duration as `Duration::from_days(1)`. This change replaces multiple instances of the hardcoded default duration across the `time_partition.rs` file.
 - **Files Affected**: `time_partition.rs`

* fix/default-time-window:
 ## Update Partition Duration Handling

 - **`time_partition.rs`**: Refactored `part_duration` to be non-optional, removing `Option` wrapper. Updated logic to use `unwrap_or` with `INITIAL_TIME_WINDOW` where necessary. Adjusted related methods and tests to accommodate this change.
 - **`version.rs` (memtable and region)**: Updated handling of `part_duration` to align with changes in `time_partition.rs`, ensuring consistent use of non-optional `Duration`.

* fix/default-time-window:
 ### Improve Error Context in `time_partition.rs`

 - Enhanced error context message in `time_partition.rs` to provide clearer information on partition time range issues, including bucket size details.
