feat(meta): track per-node scheduling state and fence region placement (#9884)
feat: track per-node scheduling state and fence region placement
Add a cluster-wide, persistent "can this node receive new regions" flag and
make every metasrv placement path respect it. This is the fence half of
`ADMIN drain_node`; the drain procedure, gRPC entry and region evacuation land
separately.
State layout
- New namespace `__node_scheduling/{datanode,flownode}/{node_id}` holding
`{"schedulable": false}`. A missing key means schedulable, so undrain is a
delete and no stale `schedulable: true` records are left behind.
- `NodeSchedulingKey`/`NodeSchedulingValue` mirror the existing KV conventions
(`NodeInfoKey`'s `{role, node_id}` shape, `LeaseValue`'s `*Value` suffix).
The role is part of the prefix, so extending to flownodes needs no key change.
- `NodeSchedulingManager` writes with `put_if_not_exists`/`compare_and_put`, so
concurrent marks change the state exactly once, and reads a single prefix
range per placement decision (DDL/failover only, not per query).
Placement
- `NodeInfo` gains `#[serde(skip)] schedulable: Option<bool>` plus
`is_schedulable()`; `None` (unresolved) counts as schedulable, and the field
never reaches heartbeat bytes, so the wire/in-memory format is unchanged.
- `SchedulingAwarePeerDiscovery` stamps the flag on `active_datanodes`. It is
additive (never hides nodes) because failover still needs the full active set
to compute its exclusion list.
- All three built-in selectors now fetch candidates through
`selector::common::active_schedulable_datanodes`; `RegionSupervisor` adds
unschedulable datanodes to `exclude_peer_ids` for both selector variants.
Enforcing the single fence
- `MetaPeerClient` no longer implements `PeerDiscovery`; its discovery methods
are inherent, and `DatabaseOperator` (frontends only) takes the concrete
client. `SchedulingAwarePeerDiscovery`, built once in `MetasrvBuilder`, is
therefore the only way to obtain a `PeerDiscoveryRef`, so bypassing the fence
is a compile error rather than a silent misplacement.
Compatibility
- New key namespace only; `NodeInfo` serialization is byte-identical, so old
metasrv nodes and persisted heartbeats keep working. The flag itself is stored
in the durable KV, so a follower metasrv sees marks written by the leader.
Verification
- `cargo nextest run -p meta-srv node_scheduling` (13), `selector` (12),
`supervisor` (14), `-p common-meta cluster` (9), `-p meta-client` (36),
`-p standalone` (compiles, no tests).
- `cargo clippy -p meta-srv -p common-meta -p meta-client -p standalone
--all-targets -- -D warnings`, `cargo fmt --all -- --check`.

feat(config): support overriding region engine options from env (#9700)
* feat(config): support overriding region engine options from env `region_engine` is a `Vec` of externally tagged enums, so plain dotted environment keys cannot address it: `config` walks the path, replaces the default sequence with a table and loading fails with `invalid type: map, expected a sequence`. Address the entries by tag name instead (`<PREFIX>__REGION_ENGINE__<TAG>__<FIELD>`) and merge the overrides onto the default entries in a dedicated source, so the engines and fields that are not mentioned keep their configured value. An entry the default sequence does not have is appended; a numeric index, an override of the whole sequence, a field below a non-table default and two variables that set a path and a field below it are reported with a dedicated error instead of a serde type error. A configuration file that configures the sequence as a whole still replaces the merged value, which the example configs document. Closes #8620 Signed-off-by: NightG1owZ <316247938+NightG1owZ@users.noreply.github.com> * docs(config): clarify that the metric engine is always enabled `region_engine` defaults to [mito, file], but the datanode builds and registers the metric engine unconditionally. Reword the example configs so `mito` and `file` read as the default configuration entries and naming `metric` only supplies its options, then regenerate config.md. Signed-off-by: NightG1owZ <316247938+NightG1owZ@users.noreply.github.com> * docs(config): drop the env-var explanation from the config reference Environment variables are documented in the GreptimeTeam/docs repository, so the example configs and the generated config reference only describe the config file. Keep the note that the metric engine is always registered. Signed-off-by: NightG1owZ <316247938+NightG1owZ@users.noreply.github.com> * test(config): cover tagged sequence environment collection Add unit tests for TaggedSeqEnvSource::collect: merging by tag, appending unknown tags, empty and null defaults, flat key removal, the error paths and the take_entries and is_index_like helpers. The variables are injected through Environment::source, so the tests do not touch the process environment. chore(deps): upgrade sqlx to 0.9 to pick up webpki-roots 1.0.10 (#9862)
sqlx 0.8 pins the unmaintained webpki-roots 0.26 line for its rustls trust store, which still contains the recently compromised e-Tugra CA root. Upgrading sqlx to 0.9 switches its dependency to webpki-roots 1.x, and the lockfile now resolves to 1.0.10 where the distrusted root has been removed from the compiled-in Mozilla trust store. sqlx 0.9 requires dynamic SQL strings to be explicitly audited via the new SqlSafeStr trait: only &'static str literals are accepted as-is. All affected call sites (MySQL KV backend, MySQL election, integration tests and fuzz targets) now wrap their internally generated SQL templates in AssertSqlSafe; the wrapped SQL is built from operator config or test-local identifiers only, and dynamic data keeps flowing through bind parameters. The mysql-rsa feature is enabled alongside mysql to preserve 0.8 authentication behavior: sqlx 0.9 gates non-TLS RSA password auth (caching_sha2_password / sha256_password) behind it. fix(meta): validate persisted partition bounds before altering regions (#9487)
* fix(meta): validate persisted partition bounds before altering regions
A partition bound is persisted with the type of the column at the time
it was written. When an ALTER TABLE changes the type of a column
referenced by a partition expression (widening the time index unit is
the common case), each region rewrites the bound literal to the new
type while building its scan predicate. A millisecond bound like year
3000 fits milliseconds but overflows nanoseconds, so every scan of the
region fails once the table schema is updated -- and some regions may
already be altered when the failure surfaces.
Validate every region's persisted expression on prepare, before any
region is modified: parse the persisted JSON (mirrored types, since
common-meta cannot depend on the partition crate which depends on it),
replay the same value -> ScalarValue conversion and checked cast the
region performs, and reject the ALTER naming the offending region when
a bound cannot be represented with the new column type. Incompatible
changes are rejected atomically; compatible widening proceeds unchanged.
Adds meta-level tests (multi-region rejection naming the second region,
compatible widening completing) and an end-to-end sqlness case.

* fix(meta): compare partition bounds with the scan comparison coercion
The preflight validator cast the persisted bound directly to the altered
column type, which rejected ALTERs the scan itself accepts: the region
coerces both the column and the bound to the common comparison type
(ExprSimplifier::coerce in PredicateGroup::new), so narrowing a field
column with an out-of-range bound still scans. Compare through
comparison_coercion(target_type, bound_type) instead and only require the
bound to be castable to the common type.
Also add a round-trip test in the partition crate that serializes real
PartitionExprs and runs them through the validator, so drift between the
Persisted* mirror and the partition types fails CI, and fix the error
message to match the comparison semantics.

fix(log-store): refuse to open object store WAL regions whose history is missing (#9561)
* fix(log-store): refuse to open object store WAL regions whose history is missing A region persists only its WAL prefix, not the object store that holds it. After `[wal].storage_provider`, or the bucket or root of the provider it names, changes, or after the objects under the prefix are deleted, every region reopened against a prefix without its history, replayed nothing and silently lost its acknowledged writes that were not flushed. Add `LogStore::check_region_history` and `LogStore::start_region_history`, whose defaults accept and do nothing, so Raft Engine and Kafka are unchanged. The object store WAL reports the history of a region as missing when recovery found no object under the prefix, or when the region's watermark names an object above the newest object holding entries that recovery indexed, unless the catalog holds the region's entries through the watermark or the region's history starts in the store. Both rest on invariants of the prefix: an opened prefix is never empty, and a persisted watermark names an object at or below the newest object holding entries, which collection never deletes. The segment of release records counts as entries, since an object holding only release records can be the one collection keeps; start objects hold no segment and do not move the bound. When a store that found its prefix empty refuses a region, the actor gives up its start object, so the next start refuses the region again. It agrees only while nothing was handed an id, no batch, append, release or create waits, no failed release is kept, no other object was listed, the catalog holds only the start object and no region's history started in the store, deciding under the lock region registration takes. It then records a terminal error, deletes the object as one of its tracked deletes, which `stop` waits for, and answers every refusal once that delete settled. Mito runs the check before it replays an existing region on open, on catch-up and when a create finds the region present, with the larger of the flushed and truncated entry ids, and records the history of a region it creates; regions that skip the WAL and noop regions are not checked. A missing history fails the open with an error naming the region, the prefix, the configured storage and how to move the WAL by copying its objects. The new `[wal].accept_missing_history` option, off by default, opens such a region without its unflushed writes instead, with a warning and the counter `greptime_logstore_object_store_wal_missing_history_accepted_total`. Signed-off-by: jeremyhi <fengjiachun@gmail.com> * docs(rfc): describe the object store WAL history check Describe the open-time history check, the prefix invariants it relies on, how release records bound the history, the start object withdrawal of a refused open and the window that remains, the accept_missing_history option and how to move a WAL by copying its objects, and update the metrics, Mito integration, evidence, compatibility and cluster alignment sections. Signed-off-by: jeremyhi <fengjiachun@gmail.com> * fix(log-store): unindex the start object a refused open withdrew A withdrawal that deleted the start object left it in the catalog and in the indexed object and byte gauges for the rest of the process. Remove it from both once the delete succeeded, and keep it when the delete failed. Signed-off-by: jeremyhi <fengjiachun@gmail.com> * docs(rfc): separate the withdrawal windows of start objects and entries An append or a release admitted before a refusal leaves an object holding entries, which may have collected the start object, so the next start also passes watermarks at or below that object. Signed-off-by: jeremyhi <fengjiachun@gmail.com> * fix(log-store): keep a successor's chain complete across a late withdrawal A start object withdrawn after another instance recovered it was linked by that instance's start object, which carried reclaim boundary 0, so once the delete landed the next open found no complete chain. A start object now reclaims every object below it when the recovered chain holds no segment, so such a delete stays below its boundary. Signed-off-by: jeremyhi <fengjiachun@gmail.com> * fix(mito2): record a created region's WAL history before its manifest A create recorded the region's WAL history after it persisted the manifest, so a withdrawal in between failed the create but left a manifest that the next start refused as a region without its history. Record the history first, so such a create fails before it writes anything. Cover receiver admission, owner cancellation, all-child drain, and retired capabilities. Local feature-worktree checkpoint only. During a rolling upgrade an older frontend does not recognize the tracked-write command extension and processes Open as an ordinary empty SQL query, rejecting it with InvalidSql (InvalidArguments); a non-internal endpoint rejects the extension outright. Both are definitive rejections that no same-frontend retry can ever resolve, so the flow stalls. Classify the Open-phase errors by status code: a definitive rejection (Unsupported / InvalidArguments / PermissionDenied) fails fast with a terminal pre-write error, while genuinely ambiguous transport failures (Unavailable, timeout, connection reset, ...) keep the same-capability retry. Write/Close rejections are deliberately NOT failed fast: once a write may have been admitted, a same-code rejection (e.g. WriterLost, or UnknownCapability after a VIP moved Open->A/Write->B) leaves the outcome ambiguous, and failing fast would let the caller replay and duplicate rows. Add a regression test that a legacy empty-SQL Open rejection fails fast with a single attempt and surfaces as Error::External carrying a TerminalError. feat(meta-client): forward actor and event context for region follower RPCs (#9568)
The manage-region-follower chain submitted its procedures with an empty executor context: `ProcedureServiceHandler::manage_region_follower` accepted no query context, the operator built an `ExecutorContext::default()`, and `MetaClient` dropped the context before delegating to `RegionFollowerClient`. The submitting user (actor) and the procedure event metadata therefore never reached the submitted procedures. - `ProcedureServiceHandler::manage_region_follower` now takes a `QueryContextRef`, consistent with `migrate_region`, `gc_regions` and `gc_table`. - `ProcedureServiceOperator` derives the `ExecutorContext` (actor and `TriggerReason::Manual` event input) from the query context. - The `RegionFollowerClient` trait methods now accept `&ExecutorContext` and `MetaClient` forwards it, so client implementations can transport the actor and event context on the wire. - `procedure_event_context`/`procedure_actor` are now public so client implementations can reuse the trusted protocol derivation. |

build: reduce checkout-specific inputs for cache reuse (#9198)
* test(mito2): cover regex inverted index pruning Signed-off-by: discord9 <55937128+discord9@users.noreply.github.com> * build: keep build inputs checkout-relative for cross-worktree cache reuse Two small changes so compilations are byte-identical across worktrees of the same commit and can share a build cache (mbx, sccache): - src/common/version/build.rs: derive the workspace root relative to CARGO_MANIFEST_DIR instead of the CARGO_WORKSPACE_DIR injected by .cargo/config.toml (an absolute path). The env var remains as an explicit override for the submodule case; the [env] injection in .cargo/config.toml is removed so the relative derivation is used by default. - Replace three env!("CARGO_MANIFEST_DIR") uses in test/bench code (servers prom_decode bench + decode test, common-meta test_util) with a runtime std::env::var lookup, so the compiled artifact no longer embeds the checkout path. fix(promql): follow IEEE 754 float semantics in comparisons and aggregations (#9479)
* fix(promql): follow IEEE 754 float semantics in operators and aggregations - Comparisons: Arrow orders floats totally (NaN == NaN, NaN > +Inf); PromQL comparisons with NaN are false except !=. - min/max: skip NaN unless the whole group is NaN. DataFusion's grouped min/max let NaN replace and be replaced by neighbours, so the result depended on input order. - topk/bottomk rank NaN last. - round() rounds ties up and returns NaN for a zero step, like Prometheus. - sqrt() of a negative number is NaN instead of an error. Signed-off-by: Dennis Zhuang <killme2008@gmail.com> * fix(promql): round() without a step rounds to integers The planner passed a zero step for single-argument round(), which now yields NaN like Prometheus; pass 1 instead. Found by the compatibility harness. Signed-off-by: Dennis Zhuang <killme2008@gmail.com> * fix(promql): apply the sqrt guard to builtin functions and register min/max for plan decoding sqrt resolves through the session's builtin functions, not the UDF branch. Distributed plans are decoded with the serializer's session, which did not know prom_min/prom_max. Signed-off-by: Dennis Zhuang <killme2008@gmail.com> * test(promql): cover NaN and rounding semantics Signed-off-by: Dennis Zhuang <killme2008@gmail.com> * fix(promql): keep the nested count rewrite for PromQL min/max count(min(x) by (l)) was rewritten by count_nest_aggr only for the builtin min/max names. prom_min/prom_max return NULL for the same groups, so the rewrite stays valid. Update plan snapshots for the IEEE comparison, sqrt, topk and min/max changes. Signed-off-by: Dennis Zhuang <killme2008@gmail.com> * fix(promql): register prom_min/prom_max in the function registry Distributed plans split an aggregation into state and merge steps only for functions whose state function exists in FUNCTION_REGISTRY; prom_min and prom_max lived in the promql crate, so min/max stopped being pushed down to datanodes. Move them to common-function and register them before the state functions are derived. Signed-off-by: Dennis Zhuang <killme2008@gmail.com> * test: update sqlness results for PromQL float semantics Plans and column names now show prom_min/prom_max, the NaN guards of comparisons and sqrt, and the NaN sort key of topk. round() results follow Prometheus' formula. Distributed min/max keep the state/merge split. Signed-off-by: Dennis Zhuang <killme2008@gmail.com> * fix(promql): keep column names and NULLs in IEEE comparisons and sqrt Rewriting comparisons as `a op b AND NOT (isnan(a) OR isnan(b))` changed TQL output column names and turned NULL operands into true for `!=` and false for the bool forms. Implement comparisons and sqrt as PromQL UDFs that propagate NULL and report the column name of the expression they replace; prom_min/prom_max report min/max column names the same way. feat(datanode): execute nested MergeScan plans on the datanode (#9206)
* feat(datanode): execute nested MergeScan plans on the datanode Give a datanode the ability to decode and execute a plan whose MergeScan carries a nested plan (e.g. an inner MergeScan over a build table), so a distributed sub-plan pushed to a datanode can itself fan out to other datanodes. This is the execution/codec capability only; it is not wired to any user-facing switch and produces no plan by itself. Codec (src/query/src/query_engine/default_serializer.rs): - MergeScanAwareSerializer keeps the request's SessionState and the engine catalog manager, and decodes a MergeScan payload's tables by (catalog, schema, table) name through the engine catalog rather than the region-aware request catalog list (which binds every table to the request's region and breaks on mismatched columns). Datanode (src/datanode): - New DatanodeRegionQueryHandler (region_query.rs) serves region queries for the MergeScan nodes of a received plan, resolving region leaders via PartitionRuleManager and dispatching to peer datanodes. - Wire KvBackendCatalogManager + PartitionRuleManager + NodeClients into the datanode's catalog/cache registry (with_dist_planner stays false: a datanode never rewrites its own plan). Bug fixes uncovered while wiring this up: - cache registry: register the table/table_info/table_name/table_route/ partition_info caches the datanode's catalog manager and partition rule manager require (previously missing -> panic on lookup). - default_serializer: decode_sub_plan bridge no longer drives a future on a current-thread runtime from within another executor (spawn a dedicated thread + runtime when not on a multi-thread runtime). Tested by query_engine::default_serializer unit tests: nested MergeScan round-trip and engine-catalog resolution with mismatched column names. No user-facing behavior change. Signed-off-by: discord9 <55937128+discord9@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(query): keep GreptimeDB function bindings after rebuilding decode state SessionStateBuilder::new_from_existing collects the function registry (HashMap) into a Vec and build() re-registers each entry; register_udf registers aliases before the function's own name and the Vec order is unstable. Rebuilding the session state to install MergeScanAwareSerializer after the GreptimeDB functions were registered could therefore rebind a name/alias (e.g. date_format, an alias of DataFusion's to_char) back to the built-in function. This path runs for every decoded plan, not only nested MergeScan ones. Extract the GreptimeDB function registration into register_greptime_functions and re-apply it after the final build of both the top-level decode state and the MergeScan payload state. Add regression tests asserting date_format stays bound to the GreptimeDB implementation on both paths. Signed-off-by: discord9 <55937128+discord9@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(datanode): address review on nested MergeScan capability Three follow-ups from review of the nested MergeScan execution capability: 1. Layer the datanode caches (P2b). table_cache derives from table_info_cache + table_name_cache, and partition_info_cache derives from table_route_cache, but they were all registered in a single flat CacheRegistry whose invalidate() runs concurrently with no ordering. A derived cache could be invalidated and refilled from a base cache that had not been invalidated yet, leaving stale metadata. Build the base caches and the derived caches as separate layers of a LayeredCacheRegistry (reusing the existing layering mechanism) so base caches finish invalidating before derived ones. Both the production path (cmd) and the test scaffolding now build the same layered registry; the flat build_datanode_cache_registry is removed. 2. Don't let a nested MergeScan's internal region query compete for the concurrency permit (P2a). An outer query holds its permit until its stream is fully consumed, and a nested MergeScan makes the datanode issue region queries to peer datanodes as execution stages of that same query. If such an inner stage also took a permit, the outer query waiting on it would deadlock against its own held permit (or time out when max_concurrent_queries > 0). Mark inner DN->DN region queries as internal stages: QueryRequest gains an flag carried over the wire in the request header's query_context extensions (reserved key, not injectable via hints), and the region server skips acquiring a concurrency permit for internal-stage requests on both acquire sites. Outer queries still acquire normally. 3. Add an end-to-end capability test (tests-integration/.../nested_merge_scan_capability_test.rs): hand-build Join(<local probe region>, MergeScan(build regions on both datanodes)) with mismatched column names and duplicate build keys, ship it to a datanode over a real TCP Flight endpoint, consume the stream fully and compare the row multiset against the frontend's reference join result, assert a real cross-datanode DoGet via an RPC counter, and assert an inner region failure fails the whole query. Also migrate the with_real_datanode_grpc_addr + DatanodeRpcStats test scaffolding. Signed-off-by: discord9 <55937128+discord9@users.noreply.github.com> * fix(query): adapt date_format regression test to the updated DataFusion fork ScalarUDFImpl's trait bounds changed so its impl can no longer be downcast via as_any(); assert the function equals the GreptimeDB implementation instead, which to_char can never satisfy. Signed-off-by: discord9 <55937128+discord9@users.noreply.github.com> * test(datanode): cover the internal stage under the concurrency limit Add an end-to-end regression test for the nested MergeScan capability under max_concurrent_queries = 1: both datanodes' only permit is held by the outer queries' streams while their inner MergeScans fetch the build regions from the same datanodes over real Flight connections. The result consumption is bounded by a timeout, so a broken link anywhere in the chain (marking the inner request internal, carrying the marker in the request header, honoring it at the receiving acquire sites) fails the test instead of deadlocking. Also add a minimal with_datanode_options_override hook to the cluster builder, and fix the test module doc: the outer request is handed to RegionServer::handle_remote_read in process; only the inner region queries go over the wire. Signed-off-by: discord9 <55937128+discord9@users.noreply.github.com> * test(datanode): cover cold route loads under unrelated invalidations The table route cache uses InitStrategy::VersionChecked, whose version counter belongs to the whole CacheContainer rather than to a single table: any TableId invalidation bumps the shared version, so a cold load of one table's route retries when an unrelated table is invalidated concurrently. Document this as a known limitation on the region query handler, and pin the behavior with an integration test: run the nested plans while a background task invalidates an unrelated table id on every datanode, assert the results still match the expected multiset (retries only add work, they never return a stale route), and report the observed load amplification via the cache miss counter (2 loads without invalidations, 8 over three runs with 24 unrelated invalidations in this run). Also expose the datanode cache registries on the test cluster so a test can drive the local invalidation path that the heartbeat handler drives after a metasrv broadcast. fix: unify unknown flow option rejection across OSS and enterprise builds (#9319)
* fix(operator): unify unknown flow option rejection across OSS and enterprise builds Remove the enterprise-gated passthrough that let unknown flow options through SQL-layer validation. Both OSS and enterprise binaries now reject unknown flow options with a single 1004(InvalidArguments) error at the SQL layer, producing identical sqlness output. The metasrv-side validate_flow_options remains as a defensive check. Signed-off-by: discord9 <discord9@163.com> * fix(flow): use DISTINCT output columns as sink key for streaming flows When a streaming flow's source table has no primary key, sink key inference produced an empty key. For SELECT DISTINCT v, the DISTINCT establishes v as the output key, but the inference only looked at source primary keys. Combined with the zero-valued placeholder timestamp, all output rows shared the same storage identity and were deduplicated into a single row. Use all non-time-index output columns as the sink key when the plan is a DISTINCT and no source primary key was inherited. Signed-off-by: discord9 <discord9@163.com> * fix(flow): preserve extension options and complete DISTINCT sink identity Keep enterprise CREATE FLOW options available to the existing handler and report unknown ordinary options as InvalidArguments with the OSS SQL error text. feat(log-store): add the enqueued acknowledgement mode to the object store WAL (#9358)
* feat(log-store): add the enqueued acknowledgement mode to the object store WAL Add `ack_mode` (`durable` by default, or `enqueued`) and the backlog thresholds `max_unpersisted_bytes` and `max_unpersisted_age` to the object store WAL config, validated by the datanode and the store. In the `enqueued` mode `append_batch` returns on admission with the entry ids assigned and the object is created in the background. At a backlog threshold the next append is held back until an upload completes. A transient create failure is repeated under the same sequence with the same bytes; any conflicting object poisons the store. `stop` uploads the backlog, or returns the error that dropped it once stop began. `obsolete` clamps the watermark to the durable entry id, and an id the store handed out needs no sequence floor. Add `LogStore::wait_durable` with a default that returns at once. The object store WAL answers it once the region is durable and indexed through the entry id, and fails it after a backlog was lost. Signed-off-by: jeremyhi <fengjiachun@gmail.com> * fix(log-store): poison an enqueued store on permanent create failures Repeat a failed create in the enqueued mode only when the storage error is retryable; any other storage error poisons the store. A conflicting object poisons an enqueued store without reading its epoch, so a failed header read cannot turn the conflict into a retry. A durability wait for an id above the highest id the store handed out now waits for the handed-out ids of the region below it instead of returning at once. Signed-off-by: jeremyhi <fengjiachun@gmail.com> * fix(log-store): poison on permanent create failures after stop begins A create that fails with a storage error that is not retryable poisons an enqueued store even after stop began; only a transient failure drops the backlog without poisoning. Durability waiters whose callers stopped waiting are pruned before a new waiter is queued. The backlog age test no longer depends on a follow-up append finishing within the threshold. Signed-off-by: jeremyhi <fengjiachun@gmail.com> * fix(log-store): answer a durability wait once no earlier entry is pending A durability wait now returns once the region holds no entry at or below the target that is handed out but not durable, instead of waiting for the largest id handed out to the region. A later object of the region that is still being created no longer holds back a wait whose target it does not cover. Signed-off-by: jeremyhi <fengjiachun@gmail.com> * test(log-store): order the pending durability wait check after the actor Signed-off-by: jeremyhi <fengjiachun@gmail.com> * docs(store-api): state that the default wait_durable keeps each store's guarantee The default `LogStore::wait_durable` returns at once, which keeps each log store's own acknowledgement guarantee; Raft Engine with `sync_write = false` acknowledges before its periodic sync, so the documentation no longer claims that every entry id a caller holds is durable. The object store WAL configuration test now also serializes the new options and reads them back. Signed-off-by: jeremyhi <fengjiachun@gmail.com> * docs(log-store): limit the acknowledgement guarantees to the durable mode Signed-off-by: jeremyhi <fengjiachun@gmail.com> * fix(log-store): repeat enqueued creates that a retry layer marks persistent An object store wrapped in the OpenDAL retry layer reports a temporary error that outlasted its retries as persistent rather than temporary. The enqueued mode now repeats a create after any storage error that is not permanent, so a transient outage behind the retry layer no longer poisons the store and drops the acknowledged backlog; after stop began such a failure still drops the backlog without poisoning. fix(auth): follow symlink chains in watch_file_user_provider (#9365)
* fix(auth): follow symlink chains in watch_file_user_provider The shared file watcher only watched the immediate parent directory of the configured path, so swapping a directory symlink elsewhere in the chain (e.g. `ln -sfn secrets.2 secrets`, as sops-nix does) never produced an event and the new users file was not loaded until restart. The watcher now resolves each path component by component and also watches the directory holding every symlink it meets, plus the directory of the final file. After each relevant event the chain is re-resolved and the watches are re-armed, so later in-place edits of the new target are seen. Only the final file's directory is required at startup; a link directory that cannot be watched (e.g. mode 0711) is logged and retried later. Events are now filtered to the chain's links and final files, so that watching e.g. /tmp does not reload on unrelated files. Names are compared case-insensitively on macOS and Windows. TLS cert reload uses the same helper. chore(toolchain): switch to stable Rust 1.96.1 and remove all nightly feature gates (#9303)
* chore(toolchain): switch to stable Rust 1.96.1 and remove all nightly feature gates Move the workspace from the pinned nightly-2026-03-21 to stable 1.96.1 and drop all 23 '#![feature]' gates across 13 crates, rewriting the still-unstable API usages with stable equivalents: - try_blocks: closures / an async block (table, query, common-function, servers) - duration_constructors: Duration::from_secs(n * 86400) / (n * 60) - iterator_try_collect: collect::<Result<Vec<_>, _>>() - box_patterns: as_deref() + matches! chains (sql) - error_iter: error_chain_root() source-chain walker (common-error); sources() includes the error itself, so the walker never panics - int_roundings: div_floor -> div_euclid (equal for positive divisors) - iter_partition_in_place: stable sort_by_key partition helper (index) - hash_set_entry: HashSet::insert bool / contains+insert - trait_alias: lifetime-parameterized dyn FnOnce type aliases (puffin) - string_from_utf8_lossy_owned: from_utf8_lossy(&v).into_owned() - never_type: Infallible (common-recordbatch) - debug_closure_helpers: closure-backed DebugFmt newtype (mito2) - binary_heap_pop_if: peek().is_some_and() + pop() - exclusive_wrapper: drop Exclusive; C: Send + Unpin already in bounds - stmt_expr_attributes: stale gate, no usages Also fix release-dev-builder-images.yaml, which parsed rust-toolchain.toml with a date-only regex and would produce empty image versions with a stable channel; it now extracts the full channel token. chore(deps): replace cargo-udeps with cargo-shear for unused dependency checks (#9294)
* chore(deps): replace cargo-udeps with cargo-shear for unused dependency checks cargo-udeps requires a nightly toolchain and its pinned version (0.1.61) no longer detects unused dependencies against current cargo internals — unused deps have landed on main undetected (e.g. humantime in common-frontend since #6689). cargo-shear is a standalone static analyzer that runs on any toolchain. - Swap 'make check-udeps' / 'make fix-udeps' recipes to 'cargo shear' / 'cargo shear --fix' and retire scripts/fix-udeps.py - CI: install cargo-shear in the check-udeps job; drop the build cache and protoc steps (cargo-shear never compiles) - Remove ~150 unused dependency declarations found by cargo-shear, move misplaced deps to the correct sections, drop orphaned [workspace.dependencies] entries (arrow-cast, rustc-hash) - Add [package.metadata.cargo-shear] ignored entries with explanations for dependencies that are structurally required despite no textual reference: sqlparser (required by sqlparser_derive expansions in datatypes, common-query), common-error (required by common-macro's stack_trace_debug expansions in session, tests-fuzz), k8s-openapi (feature-pinning for the transitive kube dependency in tests-fuzz), tikv-jemalloc-sys (link-only, enables jemalloc profiling features in common-mem-prof), protobuf (required by build.rs-generated bindings in log-store) - Drop the obsolete [package.metadata.cargo-udeps.ignore] sections Part of #9289 Signed-off-by: Ning Sun <sunning@greptime.com> * fix(meta): populate physical metric table column ids (#9286) * fix(meta): populate physical metric table column ids Signed-off-by: dhruvxvaishnav <dhruvvaishnav687@gmail.com> * test(meta): verify physical metric column ids Signed-off-by: dhruvxvaishnav <dhruvvaishnav687@gmail.com> --------- Signed-off-by: dhruvxvaishnav <dhruvvaishnav687@gmail.com> * fix(postgres): return empty responses for comment-only SQL (#9295) fix(postgres): handle parsed empty queries in both protocols Signed-off-by: houyuwushang <180804215+houyuwushang@users.noreply.github.com> * ci: create docs follow-up issue on PR merge instead of on label (#9237) * ci: create docs follow-up issue on PR merge instead of on label The docbot workflow previously created a docs-repo issue as soon as the 'docs-required' condition was detected (PR opened/edited with the docs checkbox ticked), even if the PR was never merged. Now the workflow also triggers on PR 'closed': - opened/edited: only manage the docs-required/docs-not-required labels - closed: create the docs issue only when the PR was actually merged and carries the docs-required label This also lets maintainers control issue creation by manually adding or removing the docs-required label before merging. Signed-off-by: Ning Sun <sunning@greptime.com> * fix: address review comments on docs issue creation timing - Only touch docs labels when the docs checkbox state actually changed in an edit. Previously, editing any other part of the PR body while the checkbox stayed checked removed the docs-required label, silently dropping the docs follow-up now that issue creation happens at merge. Unchanged checkbox now leaves labels untouched, which also preserves manual label overrides. - Do not trust the closed event's stale label snapshot at merge time: re-read the live PR via the API and create the docs issue if the docs-required label is present OR the checkbox is ticked in the current body. - Make the workflow concurrency group action-aware so a merge run does not cancel an in-flight label update from an edit run. Signed-off-by: Ning Sun <sunning@greptime.com> * fix: make docs-required label the single source of truth at merge The label-OR-checkbox merge condition could not distinguish an intentional opt-out from an unfinished label update: removing docs-required while the checkbox stayed checked still produced an issue, and unchecking the box could still produce one if the merge read the stale label before the edit run removed it. At merge time, wait for any pending docbot runs on the PR head SHA to finish their label updates (bounded to 5 minutes), then decide solely by the live docs-required label. Adds actions: read permission for listing workflow runs. Signed-off-by: Ning Sun <sunning@greptime.com> --------- Signed-off-by: Ning Sun <sunning@greptime.com> * perf(promql): push label filters into grouped join inputs (#9280) * perf(promql): propagate matching filters through grouped joins Signed-off-by: Dennis Zhuang <killme2008@gmail.com> * perf(promql): check matcher safety on the receiving operand Signed-off-by: Dennis Zhuang <killme2008@gmail.com> * refactor(promql): spell out the shapes a filter may cross `preserves_filter` ended in `_ => true`, which was only sound because `selector_matchers` independently rejects label rewriting, `count_values`, subqueries and non-rollup calls on the same operand. Loosening the latter alone would have silently pushed a matcher below a label rewrite. List the shapes that carry a scan filter instead and default to `false`. Cite #9207 for the result labels the grouped cases record: the join projects the right operand's tag set, so `zone` is missing wherever the right side aggregates it away. No behavior change. Signed-off-by: Dennis Zhuang <killme2008@gmail.com> * test(promql): assert the new pushdowns reach the scan The grouped-join unit tests feed tag columns by hand and the SQLness case only checks results, which are identical whether or not the rewrite fires. Nothing would have failed if scalar arithmetic, ranking or grouped matching stopped propagating. Assert through the planner that the matcher reaches both scans, with a global topk one-side as the counter-example. Also state that the duplicate-one-side cases record a cross product Prometheus rejects (#9209), so the baseline is not read as intended semantics. Signed-off-by: Dennis Zhuang <killme2008@gmail.com> --------- Signed-off-by: Dennis Zhuang <killme2008@gmail.com> * fix(ci): build tests-integration lib with meta-srv/mock (#9299) * fix(ci): build tests-integration lib with meta-srv/mock tests-integration's lib code (src/cluster.rs) uses meta_srv::mocks, but the dependency carrying the mock feature sits in [dev-dependencies]. Builds that only touch the lib, such as the apidoc job's cargo doc --workspace, resolve meta-srv without mock and fail with E0432. --all-targets builds unify dev-dependency features, which is why check, clippy and nextest stayed green. Move the mock-enabled meta-srv entry back to [dependencies]. The other testing features moved out in #9072 are not needed by the lib and stay in [dev-dependencies]. Signed-off-by: Dennis Zhuang <killme2008@gmail.com> * test(repartition): split per-case repartition tests test_repartition_metric ran four format/primary-key-encoding cases in a single test function, and test_repartition_mito ran two format cases. Each case builds its own 3-datanode cluster and runs a full repartition plus GC cycle, so on S3 the metric test took 165-178s against the 180s nextest terminate-after. Merge queue runs failed on it at random. Split each case into its own test. Cases were already independent, so they now run in parallel and each stays far inside the timeout, and a failure points at one encoding instead of four.
