AppKit puts the title bar container and window buttons back at their defaults on every live resize step, title change and fullscreen exit. They were corrected from window notifications after that layout had been drawn, so the buttons bounced between positions, or stayed at the defaults when no notification followed. The frames are now corrected in a main run loop observer ordered just before the Core Animation commit, project windows are created hidden on macOS so the buttons are placed before the first frame, and repeated title bar height updates are skipped.
Choosing This Window for a local project in a remote window was routed to the remote host or skipped when the path matched the remote root. open_project and light_edit_open now run on the local backend and leave remote mode once they succeed, project trust for these opens is checked locally, and a failed open cancels the pending close.
Reformat Code only asked the language server for formatting, so files whose server has no formatting capability (Markdown with marksman, and others depending on the server) could not be formatted.
Languages can now declare an external formatter. Prettier is the first: a managed tool installed on demand, or the project's own node_modules/prettier, an explicit path, or PATH. It runs on the backend copy of the document with the file's path so Prettier resolves the project's config, overrides and ignore files, and its result is applied as one undoable edit. Language servers that format a file keep doing so unless Prettier is preferred in Settings › Languages › Prettier; formatting on save is opt-in. Parsers without range support format the whole file and say so.
Errors carry structured tool data, so a missing Prettier reuses the shared install prompt and Prettier diagnostics or timeouts show as non-sticky notifications.
Fixes#639
Java files in mixed Maven projects could not resolve Kotlin types from the same module or upstream reactor modules, because Kotlin compiler output never reached JDT's Java model.
A per-project bridge compiles saved Kotlin sources with the project's own Maven setup into private staging output (a bundled Maven extension redirects outputs and records each module's Kotlin compile result) and mounts the Kotlin classes as marked libraries through a bundled JDT command, leaving m2e/JRE containers and other entries untouched. The last successful snapshot stays mounted while rebuilding; a new one is published when every Kotlin target compiles, even if javac fails, so Java callers of a renamed or removed Kotlin API show their errors in the editor. Kotlin compile failures keep the previous API and are reported under the kotlin-bridge Problems source. Removing the last Kotlin file withdraws the libraries. Changes under build outputs and excluded directories never trigger a rebuild.

Counts on the tool window stripe icons (changed files on Commit, problems, agent tasks needing input, running processes) can be turned off in Settings › Appearance & Behavior › Appearance › Tool Windows. On by default; the setting is stored in appearance settings and survives restarts.

Agent sessions can be opened in the Agents tool window beside the editor (Open in Tool Window / Open in Editor in the task menus, or by dragging between the editor and the tool window); opening in an editor tab stays the default.
Fixes in review:
- A docked conversation kept the previous task's subagent view after switching tasks: the session's local state is now keyed by task.
- Moving a conversation between the editor and the tool window lost its scroll position: position and follow-output are kept per conversation (task or subagent).
- In a short bottom tool window the message area shrank to a few pixels: wide windows place the task list beside the conversation, narrow ones cap the list height.
- Drag and drop and list selection now go through the agents.dockTask / undockTask / openTask actions.

Go's test generation and interface stubs were reachable only through context actions, because Generate filtered their titles, and implementing an interface on a plain struct wasn't available since the client didn't support gopls's interactive commands.
Generate and the editor's context menu now list `Add test for ...`, `Declare missing methods ...` and `Add methods to ... implement ...`, and a generated test file opens in the editor. For gopls only, the client advertises `interactiveResolve` and runs its `command/resolve` handshake: a prompt titled from the server asks for the interface, shows validation errors in place, and Cancel writes nothing. Requests are cancellable and other servers and existing commands are unchanged.
Fixes#620
Pasting or dropping OS files into a remote project tree sent a client-local source path to the server, so nothing was copied. Local-source imports are now carried separately from project copies and uploaded over the session SFTP channel: streamed in bounded chunks, created exclusively, cancellable across all selected paths under one task, with partial files removed on failure. Symlinks and Unix file modes are preserved, and special files are skipped and reported. Project-internal paste keeps working when the OS clipboard is briefly unavailable.
Native drop positions were assumed to be physical pixels, which shifted the target far from the pointer on Retina displays and with IDE zoom. A shared helper converts them to CSS coordinates for the project tree, the editor and Markdown drop handling, and the agent composer. Composer image drops are now read on the client in remote windows.
Verified on macOS against a live SSH host. Windows and Linux were not run: the Windows conversion is unchanged, the Linux one changed. Copy out from a remote tree to the local machine still needs a download workflow.
IDE zoom changed the toolbar height while the macOS window buttons stayed at a fixed vertical position. The buttons are now centred in the title bar using its measured height and the zoom, and repositioned after AppKit layout updates. Zooming out keeps enough room for them so they do not cover the project icon, and compact mode follows the same alignment.
Windows align from the saved zoom and compact setting when they are built, so the buttons do not move once the page loads. The height uses the zoom the webview applies, so an out-of-range setting cannot misplace them.
Projects now open with a user-owned trust decision. The prompt offers Preview in Restricted Mode, Don't Open and Trust Project, with an optional trusted parent folder; preview is the default focus so Enter never grants trust.
Restricted projects keep browsing, editing, saving, search and highlighting. Project-controlled execution is denied by default in the backend: run, debug, build, tools, language servers, plugins and Git commands that could honour repository configuration. Trusting a project enables those paths without reopening it, and decisions can be revoked in Settings.
Terminals stay available when the user opens one, without project shell settings, environment or virtualenv activation. A shell prompt that runs git in the folder can still honour the repository's core.fsmonitor.
Fixes#462
Markdown layout controls occupied a permanent bordered popup over the document.
- Move them into the editor tab strip with layout icons. When tabs are hidden, including Distraction Free Mode, show one floating toolbar that appears on mouse activity and fades after inactivity.
- Use the same floating toolbar for the HTML browser controls.
- Keep keyboard access: hold the toolbar while focused, return focus on Escape, and respect reduced motion. Add theme tokens with their import, template and reference entries.
A direct debug launch kept its output only in Debug, while Services showed an idle entry or an earlier Run.
- Show the debug execution's console and running, suspended or finished state in Services, reusing the debugger's bounded console through the Run/Debug bridge. Console output does not rebuild the Services tree.
- Keep Maven and Gradle attached launches in their Run console, pairing Run and debug sessions by configuration and process.
- Stop an owning Run and wait for its process to exit before detaching its debuggers, so no new JDWP listener is attached again.
- Point configuration Stop and Rerun at the displayed execution, and group Stop at every live execution.

Linux windows used the GTK menu bar and the system title bar, unlike the frameless main toolbar on Windows.

The in-file Find bar had no way to see all matches at once.
Its new More menu adds Open Results in Find Window (Alt+F7 while the bar has focus), which lists the current query's matches as an Occurrences tab in the Find tool window, using the open editor text and the case, word, regex and selection options. The menu also has the multiple-cursor occurrence actions and a Scroll to Results During Typing toggle.
Fixes#523
The Color Scheme page only offered built-in schemes, so a scheme from another IDE could not be used.
Import reads .icls files into named custom schemes in user settings, reports applied and skipped values, and rejects malformed files. Export writes the current scheme, replacing an existing file, and custom schemes can be deleted. Colours are validated before reaching a stylesheet, and project settings cannot define schemes. The Appearance selector and Quick Switch list custom schemes too.
Fixes#513
Pasting or dropping an image into a Markdown editor saves it beside the document in `assets/` and inserts a URL-encoded relative link as one undo step, in local and remote projects. Existing names get numbered suffixes; the folder and clipboard name pattern are in Settings › Editor › General. Non-Markdown editors, text paste and other dropped files keep their behavior.
Fixes#308
Services followed configuration detection order, so frequently used services could not be kept together. Services can now be dragged before or after a sibling, with an insertion indicator and edge scrolling, or moved with Move Up/Down from the toolbar and context menu.
The order is stored per project location and type, separately from configuration definitions. New configurations append, windows stay in sync, and a failed save keeps the order for the session with a warning. Sorting in Tree is opt-in, so other trees are unchanged.

Workspaces open several local project folders in one IDE session (File › New / Open / Manage Workspace…, or Attach when opening a project, which creates a workspace automatically for a plain project window). Member folders are the Project view roots and take part in indexing, Find in Files, Git, language servers, run configurations and builds; agent tasks choose which member they work in. Window › Merge All Project Windows groups project windows into one window with project tabs (switch, reorder, close, move to a new window), restored on reopen.

The frameless Windows window has no native resize borders, so it couldn't be resized from its edges. Invisible hit areas along the edges and corners start a native resize drag (minimum size and snapping handled by the system); they're omitted while the window is maximized or full screen. Not verified on a real Windows machine.

With several sessions running, the toolbar's Rerun and Stop could act on a different configuration than the selected one: when the selected configuration had no matching run session, the widget fell back to the most recently started session of another configuration; and debug sessions did not record the configuration they were started from, so a configuration being debugged never matched and a running npm session took over the buttons.
The widget, Run (Shift+F10) and Stop (Cmd+F2) now target the selected configuration's session, whether it was started with Run or Debug (the most recent when both exist); Rerun of a debug session reruns it in debug. When the selected configuration is not running, the widget offers Run / Debug for it, and Stop remains available for the other running sessions (with a chooser when several are running). Debug sessions keep their originating run configuration. In a focused Run or Debug tool window, Stop still stops the selected tab's process.

Opens .ipynb files in a native notebook editor, in a project or LightEdit.
- crates/ide-notebook: lossless nbformat documents (unchanged notebooks save byte-for-byte, unknown fields kept, external changes detected) and owned local kernels over ZMQ via kernelspec — the selected Python environment only needs ipykernel, no Jupyter server.
- ide-host owns notebook documents per project incarnation and admits one execution batch at a time; outputs stream over IPC channels and kernel status is an IdeEvent.
- src/features/notebook: virtualized Python/Markdown cells, insert/delete/move/change type, Run Cell / Run All (Shift+Enter), interrupt, restart, interpreter selection from ide-sdk discovery, shared split views. Raw/unknown cells stay read-only.
- Custom editor kinds take part in dirty state, save/save all, undo/redo and Save/Don't Save/Cancel; closing editors from other features awaits that decision.
- Outputs: text, tracebacks, PNG/JPEG and sanitized SVG inline; HTML sanitized in a sandboxed iframe without allow-same-origin; JavaScript output is shown as inert source.
- Explicit launches (opening a notebook from the OS) win over session restoration.

#291 named letter keys by the typed character (e.key) when Alt is not held, so AZERTY Ctrl+Z is no longer Ctrl+W. Hard-coded handlers still compared the physical KeyboardEvent.code. A shared letterOf(e) in platform/keymap.ts now backs strokeOf and those handlers:
- terminal Ctrl+Shift+C / V / T (copy, paste, new tab) and Ctrl+letter control codes
- Run/Debug Configurations Ctrl/Cmd+N
- browser shortcut guards (blocked reload/print etc.)
Alt combos keep the physical key (Option / AltGr type symbols).

Background tasks often couldn't be cancelled, or cancelling didn't stop them:
- A cancel that arrived before the backend registered the request was dropped (build while saving files, multi-repository fetch/pull between repositories). The host now remembers early cancels (bounded, 2 min), and request ids start at a random value per page.
- There was no queue and no common cancel path: backend-reported tasks (LSP progress, deployment transfers) couldn't be cancelled, and tool installs, VCS operations and update checks had no cancel button in Background Tasks.
- Only the direct child process was killed, and JDK / tool archives were extracted without checking for cancellation.
Tool installs and JDK downloads now share a downloads queue; cancelling a queued task removes it without starting any work. Every task cancels through one path that shows "Cancelling…" and then removes it; tasks that can't be interrupted show a disabled cancel button with the reason. IdeEvent::Task carries `cancellable` with a cancel_task command, cancellable LSP progress sends window/workDoneProgress/cancel, installers, curl and tar run in their own process group and are killed as a group, and extraction checks for cancellation between entries.

The Services tool window lists run configurations next to Docker. Spring Boot configurations appear by default; other types (Application, npm, Maven, Gradle, …) are added with + › Run Configuration Type and removed with Remove from Services, remembered per project. Nodes group by type and show running / stopped, with Run / Rerun, Debug, Stop, Show in Run Tool Window and Edit Configuration… in the toolbar and context menu; the detail pane shows the same console as the Run tool window. Running Spring Boot apps show the HTTP port read from the embedded server's "started on port" line.
Rerun now waits for the old process to exit before starting the new one, so a restarted server no longer fails with its port already in use, and a process stopped by the user no longer raises an exit-code notification.

Editing and folding
- Move Caret to Code Block Start / End with Selection, Auto-Indent Lines,
Move Element Left / Right (swaps call arguments, parameters and list
entries).
- Fold Code Block folds the {...} block around the caret; Expand to Level
and Expand All to Level 1-5.
- Custom folding regions (//region, #region, <editor-fold>) fold to their
description; Navigate > Custom Folding lists them.
- Error Description shows the problems at the caret; Next / Previous
Highlighted Usage steps through usage highlights.
- Editor tooltips stay below the editor's top edge, so hints on the first
lines no longer hide under the tab bar.
Navigation, project and run
- Navigate > File Path lists the file and its folders to reveal in the file
manager.
- Copy... (F5) opens the Copy dialog for the selection or the open file; the
project view's Refactor submenu gets Copy File.
- Debug... chooses a configuration to debug; Quick Evaluate Expression shows
the selection's value in an expandable hint.
- Inspect Current File runs the inspection without the scope dialog.
- Surround with Live Template lists only $SELECTION$ templates; Java gets
Callable, read / write lock and iterate templates.
Windows
- Stretch the active tool window left / right / up / down, Restore Default
Layout, Go to Next / Previous Splitter, Close Active Tab on a second key,
Stop Background Processes.
All actions have default shortcuts in both keymaps, VS Code preset entries,
main menu items and Chinese translations.
Project view and Keymap settings
- Project view Options: Sort by Name / Type / Modification Time (also in
Find Action).
- Settings > Keymap: Add Mouse Shortcut records a side-button click with
modifiers and checks conflicts like keyboard shortcuts.
- Folding: Expand to Level / Expand All to Level 1-5.
On macOS, OpenIDEA is now listed under Finder's Open With for text and source files and for folders. It never becomes the default app for any of them: all document types are declared with rank Alternate, and only in tauri.macos.conf.json, so Windows and Linux installers register nothing.
Files opened from Finder, the Dock or a second instance share one routing path (plan_open). A file inside a local project that is already open, or still opening, goes to that project's window, choosing the deepest root when projects are nested. Any other file goes to the existing single-file window, or to a new one. A folder focuses the window that already has it open, otherwise it opens as a project. Paths that arrive before setup are queued and opened with the first launch.
The single-file window now closes with its last tab, restores its files the next time it opens, and only offers Open File and drop hints when empty. Also fixes a regression: reopening projects on startup no longer replaces a file opened at cold start.
Refs #128
Files can now be opened without a project. A file dropped on the Welcome screen, picked with File › Open File…, or passed on the command line or to a second instance opens in a lightweight window: editor tabs only, with no project tree, indexing, language servers, VCS or project tool windows. Syntax highlighting, find, save, undo and Local History still work. More files opened later join the same window as new tabs. Open as Project in the status bar opens the file's directory as a full project, following the open-project policy, and reopens the file there.
Backend: a light session reuses Project with an unindexed index, no LSP or VCS, and a flat watch on each opened file's directory. It is never reused as a project for the same root. Previously a file passed at launch opened its parent directory as a project.
- Settings › Commit › "Use non-modal commit interface": when off, Local
Changes, Shelf and Stash become tabs of the Git tool window and ⌘K opens
a Commit dialog; switches live.
- Git tool window: Worktrees tab; Show History and Show Git Log for a
branch open their own closable tabs instead of changing the Log filters.
- Log: toolbar and context menu for a commit's changed files, vertical
toolbar, Tags node and hiding for the branches pane, Collapse / Expand
Linear Branches as separate actions, and a Version Control › Log page.
- Branch popup: collapsible groups, branches grouped by prefix, an options
menu behind the gear, incoming / outgoing icons and "Pull into … Using
Rebase / Merge"; New Branch on ⌥⌘N outside the editor.
- Git main menu regrouped with Uncommitted Changes and Current File
submenus; rebase / merge controls enabled only while one is in progress.
- Settings: Version Control lists its pages; new options for clearing the
initial commit message, showing Update options, confirming dropped
commits, revealing created patches, large-file and file-name warnings,
the Push dialog after Commit and Push, combined stashes and shelves, and
removing applied files from the shelf.
Root cause: once a project was open, nothing outside the Project view handled files dropped from the OS, so drops onto the editor, tabs or other tool windows were ignored.
A window-wide handler now opens dropped files in the editor (one tab each, last one focused, files outside the project included) and opens a dropped folder as a project through the open-project policy. Regions that handle drops themselves (Project view, agent prompt box) are marked with OWNS_FILE_DROP and hit-tested, so each drop has a single handler; the Welcome screen and remote windows are left alone.
Switching between agent session tabs in the editor now moves the Agents
tool window's selection to that task, expanding its group (e.g. Archived)
when it is collapsed. The list also opens with the active session selected.
Tabs of other kinds leave the selection as it is.
The editor service gains activeInput() and onActiveInputChange() so
features can follow the active tab of any kind.
Run oxfmt once over the whole repository (formatting only, no logic changes) and add `pnpm format:check` to the frontend CI job so unformatted code no longer builds up. `.oxfmtrc.json` now skips the generated theme docs, test fixtures and code blocks inside Markdown.

Dragging a tool window edge set an inherited custom property on the tool window
grid, so every pointer move restyled the whole workbench below it. With a long
agent conversation open each move cost 150-400 ms. The grid track variables are
now registered as non-inherited, and the side splitter sets flex-grow on its two
areas instead of inherited variables on the side.
Hard-coded UI text, titles and aria-labels in about 110 components (Git panels, hierarchy, pull requests, dialogs, settings, welcome) now go through tx; spliced fragments became whole sentences (fileCount, noneFoundLabel, hierarchyTitle) and pull request states use keyed messages. 225 zh entries added, stale fragment entries removed.
Also: tx used as a tag without interpolations (tx`No checks`) now looks the text up exactly instead of as a template, so it is translated like tx("No checks"); the text-catalog test checks such tags as plain literals. Check and test counts reuse the existing "{count} passed" / "{failed} failing" entries.

- The title bar project popup lists Remote Development… next to Open… and Clone Repository….
- Opening a remote project follows "Open project in" (new window / this window / ask) when this window already has a project, and confirms leaving the current one first.
- A remote project already open in another window focuses that window.
- A new window connects to the host itself and shows the connection progress on its welcome screen.
- Recent remote projects get Open in New Window.
- Agents sits right after Project on the left stripe.
- The separator between a stripe's primary and split windows only shows
while a button is dragged, as a drop target.
- "Show tool window names" is off by default: stripes start at their
narrowest width with icons only.
- Group pages open with a short description and list their pages as
indented links.
- The page tree starts collapsed, expanding only the current page's
ancestors.
- The Settings window title bar sits on the dialog surface without a
hairline.
* feat(editor): Drag tabs and files between split panes
HTML5 drag and drop never reaches the webview while native file drop is
enabled, so tab, project-file and changelist drags did nothing. They now
run on pointer events:
- Drag an editor tab onto another pane, or onto a pane's edge to split it.
- Drag files from the Project view into an editor pane (center opens them
there, an edge opens them in a new split).
- Drag files between changelists in the Commit view.
- "Drag-and-drop with Alt pressed only" applies to tabs and stripe buttons.
* fix(lsp): Deliver server settings and start servers on a supported JDK
- workspace/configuration answers a server's own section (basedpyright)
from its settings block; basedpyright runs in "standard" mode and keeps
auto search paths on, so `src/` layouts resolve from `tests/`.
- jdtls: formatting follows the editor indent, calls complete without
guessed arguments, and JDK internals stay out of completion.
- `max-java` in a language server config picks an installed JDK no newer
than that (kotlin-language-server fails on JDK 25).
- Server initialization may take up to 5 minutes (first Gradle import).
- `lsp_resend_diagnostics` re-emits stored diagnostics after a reload.
- Spelling only checks declared names (not called methods like
`substring`) and accepts plurals of known software terms.
* feat(editor): Quick fixes, completion and navigation while typing
Quick fixes
- Errors get a red quick-fix bulb; Apply Quick Fix (⌥⇧↵) fixes the most
severe problem at the caret, and the error hover offers the fix directly.
- Code generated by a code action is re-indented to the file's style.
- Python: Implement abstract methods (⌃I or the bulb) from the bases.
- Duplicate code actions are listed once.
Completion
- Overloads sharing a name, and a name importable from several modules,
are no longer merged into one entry.
- Auto-import entries show the module they import from.
- Call snippets without a stop (`new ArrayList<>()`) leave the caret inside
the parentheses with parameter info, or past them when nothing takes
arguments; parameter info also opens after server call snippets.
- The selected item is resolved ahead of acceptance, so its auto-import
is applied (rust-analyzer).
Navigation and diagnostics
- Language server requests wait for pending edits, so Go to Declaration
right after typing answers for the current text; an empty answer right
after an edit is retried while the server catches up.
- Diagnostics come back after a window reload; error underlines stay
visible under typo / unused highlighting.
- Implementation gutter markers no longer refresh in a loop while the
server reports progress.
- A missing alternative server no longer shows as a server error.
* chore(lint): Skip agent worktrees under .claude
* fix(editor): Skip cancelled LSP requests and limit generated-code reformat
- Requests cancelled while waiting for pending edits are not sent.
- Code generated by an action is reformatted per changed hunk, so an added
import doesn't reformat the code between it and the generated lines.
- A long busy spell caused by a settle refresh re-runs it only once.
- Files dropped on a file row of another changelist move to that changelist.
- Python Implement methods: a nested class without bases ends the lookup,
class bodies continue through unindented string lines, and
`@abstractproperty` stubs become `@property`.
- Resend diagnostics goes through the host ops, and custom servers get
`max_java`.
* fix(editor): Rank the exact type first in Java constructor completion
jdtls appends the call or body to filterText (`String(${0})`); matching
on the label instead lets typing `String` rank `String` above
`StringBuilder` and the other types sharing its sort text.
* fix(editor): List identical completion items once
kotlin-language-server repeats a class once per classpath entry declaring
it, so `String()` and `String` were listed three times each.
* fix(editor): Keep the internal cancellation message out of the UI text catalog
Language servers can be configured from settings.toml (global or project) and Settings › Language Servers: arguments, environment, initialization options and workspace settings per server, enable/disable, and any stdio LSP server can be added for a language. Settings-only changes are pushed with workspace/didChangeConfiguration; launch changes restart the server.
Also: re-enabling a server now detaches and stops the fallback that stood in for it, and a server added from the dialog is written as its own [languageServers.<name>] table.
Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01VUYsdXA2nkF5v6zsC93dpn
About 270 UI strings were JS template literals with interpolation passed to exact catalog lookup, so they could never be translated; about 25 more spliced lowercase English fragments into sentences.
`tx` now also works as a template tag (`` tx`Remove data source '${name}'?` ``): it looks up the entry by the literal parts (`{name}` placeholders), translates interpolated values that have entries, and remembers generated text so it re-translates after a language switch or when the catalog loads later. Call sites use the tag; spliced fragments are written as whole sentences per variant. Adds 280 Chinese translations and removes stale ones.
The catalog guard now also fails on untagged template literals reaching exact lookup (unless allowlisted with a reason), tagged text missing from the catalog, case-changed or ternary-suffix interpolations, and duplicate template patterns.

Adds Solarized Light, Solarized Dark, One Light and One Dark as built-in themes across the workbench, editor, terminal and Mermaid, keeping the original palettes (MIT notices in THIRD_PARTY_LICENSES.md, mapping in docs/themes.md).
- Native window colours are read from tokens.css at build time (`theme_frame.rs`) instead of a second colour table.
- Startup restores the built-in palette before first paint.
- Editor schemes, the terminal and Mermaid refresh on switches between themes of the same kind.
- The plugin packages of the same themes are removed.
- A test requires every built-in palette theme to define each token (only listed ones may inherit from the base theme), so new tokens can't silently miss them.

Solarized Light/Dark and One Light/Dark ship as theme plugins (plugins/theme-solarized, plugins/theme-one) with complete UI tokens, editor schemes and terminal colours, and the original palettes' MIT notices. Installing a plugin now also copies its LICENSE/NOTICE/COPYING.
Theme handling that benefits every plugin theme:
- The last plugin theme is restored before first paint (splash, workbench); the native window background follows the theme.
- HSL / color-mix() / var() colours are resolved to RGB for native windows, the Settings window and Mermaid.
- Mermaid, the terminal and editor schemes follow switches between two themes of the same kind.
- An explicitly chosen editor scheme wins over a plugin theme's editor colours.

## What
An Agents feature: hand a task to a coding agent and follow it from the IDE. Agents speak the [Agent Client Protocol](https://agentclientprotocol.com). Built in: Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, OpenCode, Qwen Code, Kimi CLI, Goose, Auggie, Kiro, Mistral Vibe. You can add your own in `<config>/agents/<id>.toml` (`name`, `command`, `args`, `[env]`). An agent whose command isn't on `PATH` is listed under "Not installed".
- **New Task page.** An editor page with a prompt box. You pick the agent, model, mode and thinking effort, and whether it runs in a new worktree (from a chosen branch) or in the checkout.
- **Agents tool window.** Tasks are grouped by what they need: Needs Input, Failed, Running, Ready to Review, Archived. It also shows a stripe badge, a status bar item and notifications.
- **Session tab.**
- The conversation: Markdown, thinking, tool calls with diff stats, the plan.
- Permission requests appear as an editor banner.
- The changed files are compared against the task's base commit and open in the diff viewer.
- A context-usage meter.
- **Composer.**
- `@` references files from the project index. A referenced file's text is sent when the agent accepts embedded context, otherwise a `resource_link`.
- `/` lists the agent's commands; ↑/↓ recall earlier messages.
- Images can be pasted, dropped or picked; Shift+Tab cycles the mode.
- While the agent works, Enter queues the message and ⌘↵ interrupts the turn and sends it now. Queued messages can be sent now, edited or removed.
- **Send to Agent.** In the editor and Project view context menus. It adds `@file:10-20` references to the message you typed last.
- Landing the work is left to the existing Git features: the worktree is a normal branch.
## How
- **`crates/ide-agent`**: one ACP agent process per task, running in the task's directory.
- It folds `session/update` into a timeline and answers `session/request_permission`.
- It tracks the session's settings: `configOptions`, falling back to the older `modes` / `models` fields. The user's choices are applied again on every new or reloaded session.
- Tasks are saved as JSON per task. Sessions resume with `session/load` without duplicating history, and old task files are upgraded when read.
- **`ide-jsonrpc`**: adds newline-delimited framing (ACP) next to Content-Length (LSP).
- **`ide-vcs`**: adds `numstat_with_worktree` for the changes list.
- **Editor**:
- The Switcher (⌃⇥) lists every open editor, as IDEA does, not just files.
- `EditorKindContribution.restorable` lets a kind's tabs be saved with the editor session, so agent tabs survive reloads.
- **UI**: `Select` popups now size to fit short option details (they used to cut them off).
## Testing
- `cargo test -p ide-agent` (14 tests). They use an in-memory ACP agent and cover permissions, restart with `session/load`, settings, the queue with send-now and stop, and prompt blocks.
- There is also an ignored end-to-end test against the real Claude Code adapter: `OPENIDEA_AGENT_E2E=1 cargo test -p ide-agent real_claude -- --ignored`.
- `pnpm vitest run`: 2052 tests.
- `cargo clippy -p ide-agent -p openidea --all-targets -- -D warnings` and typecheck are clean.
- Driven in the running app with Claude Code:
- A task in a worktree, with permission answers, changes listed and the diff opened.
- A follow-up after restarting the IDE.
- `@` reference with embedded content, `/` commands, Shift+Tab mode changes.
- A queued message and send-now, an image prompt, Send to Agent from a selection.
- The Switcher and restored tabs after a reload.
Not covered yet: only Claude Code was driven end to end. The other agents go through the same ACP path but weren't run here.
Merged on the maintainer's go-ahead. Merge with main: kept both sides in Cargo.toml (ide-agent + ide-clipboard), the feature registry (agents + vim) and zh.json (no duplicate keys). After the merge: typecheck clean, full vitest 268 files / 2247 tests passed, ide-agent/ide-jsonrpc/ide-vcs 144 passed, bindings unchanged after regeneration.
Per the maintainer's decision for #24, no third-party themes are bundled; instead a theme plugin template and docs let the community port themes (IntelliJ also ships few themes, the rest are plugins).
- templates/theme-plugin: manifest-only plugin with an original example (Harbor Night) covering every UI token and an editor scheme (.icls equivalent).
- docs/plugins/themes.md: format, IntelliJ / VS Code porting tables, generated token reference (pnpm gen:theme-docs); drift test fails when tokens.css and the template/reference disagree.
- pnpm theme:import-intellij: dependency-free converter for IntelliJ .theme.json (+ .icls).
- Plugin host: themes may name an editor-scheme merged over the theme; comments allowed in theme files.
- Fixes: a plugin theme's kind now switches the light/dark base; plugin themes go in their own stylesheet so the Appearance accent and editor scheme still layer on top.
Verified: ide-plugin tests, vitest (44), in-app on macOS: installed the template from disk, applied Harbor Night (dark base + teal accent over Islands Light), back to default restored the light theme.

Root cause: run configurations could only launch a process; there was no "attach to a debugger that is already listening" type, and debugServer only connected to 127.0.0.1.
Fix (IDEA / GoLand / PyCharm): debug-only Remote JVM Debug (attach / listen, live JDWP agent args per JDK version), Go Remote (dlv --headless, substitutePath), Python Remote Debug (debugpy --listen, pathMappings) and Attach to Node.js (inspector, localRoot/remoteRoot); debugServer accepts host:port and [v6]:port; JVM listen mode via a cancellable relay so java-debug can attach.
Verified: ide-dap tests (host:port, relay handshake, cancel), run/debugger vitest, in-app on macOS: Python Remote Debug attached to a debugpy server, paused at app.py:3 with variables. Remote JVM/Go/Node not exercised in-app.

Root cause: on Windows the window is frameless and the main menu lives in the custom title bar; Distraction Free Mode rendered a bare title bar without it, the toggle has no default shortcut (as in IDEA) and the mode persists across restarts, leaving no way out.
Fix (IDEA): the bare title bar keeps the main menu when there is no native menu bar; a lone Alt opens the main menu; entering the mode (or restoring it) shows "To exit Distraction Free Mode, use View | Appearance … or Find Action" with an Exit action, in its own notification group.
Siblings covered: Distraction Free + Full Screen on Windows; other chrome-hiding settings checked (unaffected).
Verified in-app on macOS (hint, Exit action, single Don't Show Again). Windows-only parts (☰ in bare title bar, lone Alt) not verified on Windows.

Root cause: body is user-select: none and each feature had to opt back in; the Markdown preview (and other read-only views) never did, and the app-wide contextmenu guard left no Copy item.
Fix: shared selectableText class (src/ui) for read-only content, and a fallback Copy context menu from browserGuards when right-clicking a selection or a selectable area (component menus still win).
Siblings covered: Quick Documentation / hover / completion docs, hover errors, Quick Definition, debugger value tooltip, inspection messages, message dialogs (no drag on body text), notification titles, About dialog; existing selectable consoles now get Copy too.
Verified in-app on macOS: select in Markdown preview, right-click Copy puts the text on the clipboard; tab context menu unchanged.

- Inline Smart Step Into
- Git Log multi-select filters, "me" and date range; favourite branches,
Fetch and tags in the branch popup; stash Keep index and Unstash options
- Terminal tab titles follow the shell; Distraction Free persists; gear menu;
sticky balloons move to the notifications tool window after a while
* fix(vcs): Label restored local changes as yours after Smart Checkout; name the branch checked out
Conflicts from restoring stashed changes show the user's uncommitted
changes on the left like other operations, and the checkout notification
names the new branch instead of the previous one.
* fix: Close the merge editor on Apply; confirm before terminating a running Run tab
Like IDEA, applying a merge result closes its tab, and closing a Run tab
whose process still runs asks before terminating it (with a Settings
toggle and "Do not ask again").
* fix(terminal): Don't start a new session in the background after closing the last tab
The hidden Terminal window stays mounted, so it reopened a session as soon
as the last tab closed. It now opens the Local tab only once the window is
shown again, as IDEA does.
* fix(vcs): Start the merge result from a three-way merge; close the editor on Apply
The result pane now begins with non-conflicting changes merged and each
conflict showing the base text, resolved from the side panes, instead of
raw conflict markers. Apply now reports success, so the tab closes.
fix(search): Match File Structure filter on word starts
* fix: Limit Smart Step Into to the paused line; drop usages hints on callbacks; show full intention titles
Adapters that list every remaining call in the function (debugpy) made Smart
Step Into fall back to a chooser that offered calls from later lines. Targets
are now narrowed to the calls on the paused line, so they are picked in place.
Anonymous functions and callbacks no longer get a 'no usages' hint, and
intention titles are no longer cut short when there is room for them.
* fix: Undo / Redo from the Edit menu and Find Action use the editor's history
They ran the webview's native undo, which misses programmatic edits such as
templates, completion and refactorings, so nothing happened in the editor.
