The spec was failing on a fixture defect, not a code one. It staged a PARTIAL session into the ssh partition, and parseWorkspaceSessionsByHostId validates each partition independently and drops it ENTIRELY when a required field is absent — absence is deliberately fatal for foreign payloads. So the partition never survived load, the hoist saw no partitions at all, and the spec failed for a reason unrelated to the code under test. An old build wrote the whole session blob via setWorkspaceSession(session, hostId), so the fixture now does too. The helper also re-reads the file and reports what actually landed: its previous anti-vacuity checks measured what it wrote rather than what survived load, which is precisely how it staged nothing while asserting it had staged three tabs. Verified both directions end to end: with the hoist, all three tabs return, every pane is bound to a live pty, and the host shell count is unchanged. With the load-time hoist disabled, 1 tab of 3 — the reporter's symptom exactly. My planned union of the group loops was NOT applied: the diagnostic showed those loops never ran and local had no group to union with, so it would have been a change with no evidence behind it.
