Plugins that talk to Nextcloud, Paperless or an AI provider used to need
the password or key in their own settings, readable by the plugin and
stored in the browser. A plugin can now declare credentials in its
manifest and send requests "with credential X" through the server:
- `credentials` in the manifest: admin scope (secret and server from the
admin config) or user scope (the user connects an account; the server
address is fixed or chosen by the user)
- `/api/plugin-secrets`: the user's connected accounts, encrypted per
mail account under `PLUGIN_SECRETS_DIR`; listing never returns secrets
- `/api/plugin-proxy`: adds the secret and forwards only to the
credential's own origin, through the SSRF guard unless the admin set
the server up or listed it in `PLUGIN_PROXY_PRIVATE_ORIGINS`; no
redirects or WebDAV moves to other servers, streamed bodies capped at
512 MB up and 2 GB down, 300 requests a minute per plugin, 8 at once
per user, and one audit line per request without paths or bodies
- a capture mode that stores a secret from a sign-in response (Nextcloud
Login Flow v2) and removes it from what the plugin gets back
The admin page offered "User Plugin Uploads" and "Require Admin
Approval", but nothing in Settings used them: there was no upload, no
uninstall and no way to ask for approval, and the admin had no list of
requests. The approval code that existed pinned a hash of the code only
and showed the admin a manifest the browser sent, never the code.
Now:
- Settings > Plugins has an install button (when uploads are allowed),
a remove button for the user's own plugins, and lists in plain
language what each plugin may do, high-risk items first
- an install sends the ZIP to the server, which reads the manifest and
code itself and pins the request to a hash of both
- the admin Plugins tab lists requests with the code and approves or
denies them; a user may have 10 open requests
- a user plugin is checked again on every start, so a revoked approval
or turning user plugins off takes effect
- the consent dialog and the plugin settings are translated, use the
theme colours, and show the sites a plugin may send data to
The Settings upload, the admin upload, the marketplace install and the
marketplace preview each parsed the ZIP and manifest with their own copy
of the code, and the copies had drifted. A `permissions` string skipped
validation and was then matched by substring, a small ZIP could inflate
to hundreds of megabytes on the server, the Settings upload dropped
`locales` and took origin lists unchecked, and settings schemas were
never checked at all.
All of them now go through `lib/extension-package.ts`:
- every file is inflated through a byte cap, with a limit on entries
- one manifest check: types, permissions, entrypoint, version,
minAppVersion, settingsSchema, configSchema, locales and origin lists
- only checked fields are stored
setSandboxLocale() (which drives api.i18n.locale for every plugin) was
fed the RAW useLocaleStore value, which defaults to '' and stays ''
under 'Automatic' language (the language-switcher's default option -
see components/ui/language-switcher.tsx, components/settings/
language-settings.tsx). setSandboxLocale() then silently no-ops on an
empty string, leaving plugins stuck on the hardcoded 'en' default even
when the app's own native UI is fully localized via browser-language
auto-detection (document.documentElement.lang / detectBrowserLocale, see
i18n/detect-locale.ts's getEffectiveLocale() - already the exact
function the app's own IntlProvider uses to resolve this same case).
Switched both setSandboxLocale() call sites in plugin-store.ts to use
getEffectiveLocale() instead of the raw store value, so a plugin's
api.i18n.locale now matches the user's ACTUAL visible language,
'Automatic' included, not just an explicit language-switcher choice.
Found while building the webdav-storage plugin's localization: native
UI showed Hungarian, but the plugin's own slotApi.i18n.locale reported
'en' - confirmed via the plugin's own debug logging, then traced from
there rather than guessed.
The plugin runtime received the active locale (init payload + 'locale-change')
and plugins could declare a `locales` map, but none of it was usable: the
locales never reached the runtime, and buildPluginApi exposed no i18n. So
plugin code calling pluginApi.i18n.t(...) (as the External Link Warning plugin
does) always got undefined and fell back to English.
Thread plugin locales end to end and surface an i18n API:
- ServerPlugin gains `locales`; the upload route persists manifest.locales
(alongside configSchema/settingsSchema), and /api/plugins surfaces it to the
client so it flows registry -> client -> sandbox host-bridge -> runtime.
- runtime sets __PLUGIN_LOCALE__ at init (not only on later 'locale-change')
and buildPluginApi exposes `i18n.locale` + `i18n.t(key, vars)` resolving
against the plugin's declared locales (manifest.locales) with English/key
fallback and {placeholder} interpolation.
Lets any sandboxed plugin localize its strings from its manifest.
Makes every client-side fetch('/api/...') call respect the mount prefix
when Bulwark is served behind a reverse proxy at a sub-path (e.g.
`/webmail`).
### Problem
`getPathPrefix()` (added in 1.4.13 by #XXX / d762b94) already fixes
router navigation and redirect URIs for reverse-proxy deployments.
Client-side `fetch()` calls, though, still target the browser origin:
await fetch('/api/foo')
// Browser at /webmail/en/inbox → hits /api/foo (not proxied → 404)
That means the login flow, session establishment, settings save, plugin
loader, calendar import, etc. all break the moment you front Bulwark
with nginx (or any proxy) at a sub-path.
### Fix
Add `apiFetch(input, init)` next to `getPathPrefix()` in
`lib/browser-navigation.ts`. It prepends the mount prefix to any
absolute path at call time:
await apiFetch('/api/foo')
// /webmail/en/inbox → /webmail/api/foo
// /en/inbox → /api/foo
Same runtime-detection model as `getPathPrefix()` — the built bundle
works at any mount point without rebuilding or env-var config.
Protocol-relative (`//cdn...`) and absolute (`https://...`) URLs pass
through unchanged. Server-side route handlers are untouched (the mount
prefix is a browser-only concept).
### Migration
Mechanical rewrite of every client-side `fetch('/api/...')` call in
hooks/, lib/, stores/, components/, app/ — 99 call sites across
26 files. `route.ts` handlers and other server-only files are skipped.
### Compat
- No behaviour change when mounted at `/` (the common case): an empty
prefix + raw path is identical to raw path.
- No new config knobs, env vars, or build flags.
- Supersedes PR #181 (which required a build-time `NEXT_PUBLIC_BASE_PATH`)
— will close#181 after this lands.
### Testing
Should run the existing suite; smoke-tested by Jabali Panel which
reverse-proxies Bulwark at `/webmail/` (https://github.com/shukiv/jabali-panel).
