Stalwart 1.0 checks names more strictly than its capability says: a
reserved name may not be the stem either (`con.txt`, `Aux.tar.gz`), and
control characters are refused (macOS `Icon\r`). Names over 255 bytes
of UTF-8 were never accepted. Uploaded names are now made acceptable
before they are sent: control characters become "_", a reserved stem
gets "_" after it (`con.txt` becomes `con_.txt`), and a long name is
shortened, keeping its extension. The rename and new-folder dialogs
refuse such names with their own messages. The rules apply wherever the
server publishes naming rules, so 0.16.6 to 0.16.23 get `con_.txt` too.
One refused file used to abort a whole upload. Uploads now go on and
report the files that failed at the end, and a folder upload skips the
contents of a folder it could not create instead of dropping them into
the folder the upload started in. What would sit deeper than 1.0's
`maxFileNodeDepth` (64) is left out before it is uploaded, and a folder
copy that would go past it fails before the first create.
File errors keep their JMAP type, and the Files toasts now say why an
action failed: too many files or folders (`overQuota`), folders nested
too deeply, a refused name, missing rights, or a file too large. New
and copied files get a bare lowercase media type, which 1.0 requires.
Bulwark counted a FileNode as a folder when it had no blobId. Stalwart
1.0 adds symlinks, which have no blob either, so they showed up as
empty folders that could be opened, and folder copies recreated them
as such. Listings now ask for `nodeType` (returned since 0.16.6) and a
single helper, `fileNodeKind()`, decides what a node is in the Files
store, the copy code and the global search, falling back to the blobId
rule when `nodeType` is missing. `nodeType` is never sent in
FileNode/set.
A symlink is shown as an inert row with a link icon. It can be renamed,
moved and deleted, but not opened, previewed, downloaded, copied or
shared, and folder copies skip it.
Stalwart 1.0 treats a FileNode's `modified` as the client's: a content
update leaves it alone unless the patch asks for it. Saves from the
document editor therefore kept the old date in the file list, and the
editor's conflict check (409 with COOLStatusCode 1010) never noticed a
change made by another JMAP client. PutFile now sends `modified: null`,
which has the server stamp the save. 1.0 echoes the new time in
`updated`; 0.16.6+ answer `null` as before and the batched FileNode/get
reads it.
The editor also could not open a file in someone else's shared drive,
on any version: the Files app sent the listing's "<owner>:<id>" id for
the user's own account, and the launch failed with a 404. It now names
the owner's account and the node's own id, so owner and sharee join
the same editor session. A save uploads into the user's own account
and then points the owner's node at that blob, because Stalwart only
lets members of an account use a blob uploaded into it. The access
token carries that upload account; tokens minted before it upload into
the document's account as before.
The editor now also uses the cookie slot of the login the Pro shell is
browsing, not always the active one.
From 0.16.6 Stalwart refuses FileNode names with `/<>:"\|?*` or a
reserved name such as `CON` ("Name contains a forbidden character."),
and publishes the rules as `forbiddenNameChars` / `forbiddenNodeNames`.
Bulwark did not read them: the error showed up only after an upload had
started, and it aborted the rest of a multi-file or folder upload.
- new folder, new text file and rename now say which characters or
names the server does not allow, before sending anything
- uploads store an accepted variant instead: forbidden characters
become `_` and a reserved name gets `_` appended
MIME types over 30 characters (most Office formats) were always stored
as `application/octet-stream`, because Stalwart before 0.16.6 refuses
them. From 0.16.6 the limit is 255, so the real type is kept there.
The same missing dir="auto" as the read view, in the two other places
that build an email document.
thread-conversation-view builds a full document for each card's iframe
and its <body> had no direction, so a thread of right-to-left mail read
left-to-right in the one view that shows several messages at once.
eml-preview hands srcDoc a fragment rather than a document, so the
<body> is the browser's implicit one and cannot be annotated at all.
The wrapper the fragment already needs carries dir="auto" instead: a
<div> around sanitized HTML, and the existing <pre> for plain text.
Neither changes layout - the implicit body and its default margin stay
exactly as they were.

The Files store was the only account-scoped store never wired into the
account lifecycle: account-state-manager clears email/contacts/calendar/
filter/identity/vacation on a switch, but not files. Because the Files
store is a global that outlives the FilesApp component, the previous
account's client + resources lingered in memory and resurfaced whenever
the drive was reopened after a switch - most visibly when the switch
happened on the mail view (FilesApp unmounted), the common normal-shell
flow that the FilesApp re-init effect alone does not cover.
Clear the Files store centrally in clearAllStores() alongside the other
account-scoped stores, so the reset happens on every switch path.
Tests:
- lib/__tests__/account-state-manager.test.ts: assert clearAllStores()
resets the Files drive (client, resources, pathStack, selection,
supportsFiles) with no cross-account leak.
- integration/tests/13-files-account-switch.spec.ts (dockerized Stalwart,
JMAP FileNode): seeds a distinct top-level folder in alice's and bob's
drives and asserts the on-screen drive swaps on a switch with no stale
folder - both switching off the Files view (mail -> switch -> open
Files) and on it (rail account switcher). Verified: passes with the fix,
fails (path 1) without it. New FileNode seeding helpers in helpers/jmap.ts;
openFiles/openMailView/driveEntry nav helpers in helpers/app.ts.
Unicode's bidi algorithm treats < and > as mirrored characters. When a
plain "Name <email>" string is rendered as a text node inside an
RTL-inherited container, the browser swaps and reorders those brackets
for the whole run, producing garbled output (e.g. "<Maria Lopez
<maria.lopez@company.example" instead of "Maria Lopez
<maria.lopez@company.example>").
Wrapped the affected text in native <bdi>, which auto-detects its own
paragraph direction from its content rather than inheriting the
ancestor's - so a Latin address renders LTR and a genuinely
Arabic/Hebrew/Farsi name still renders RTL, both correctly, in:
- recipient-popover.tsx (shared by the email viewer's From/To/Cc/Bcc
detail rows and the calendar invitation banner's organizer row)
- email-composer.tsx's read-only From display
- eml-preview.tsx's From/To header lines
Left the equivalent <select><option> cases (composer identity picker,
template identity picker) and the composer's quote-header text (which
becomes actual email body content, already isolated per-paragraph by
the existing TextDirection tiptap extension) out of scope - both need
a different fix approach than <bdi>.
Clicking an embedded email attachment (bounce/DSN, forward-as-attachment, ...)
opened only a download. Add an 'eml' preview kind: FilePreviewModal parses the
blob with postal-mime (dynamic-imported, off the bundle) and renders it via a
new EmlPreview component - header (from/to/subject/date) + body + the message's
own attachments.
The body is sanitized with DOMPurify (sanitizeEmailHtmlForIframe) AND rendered
in a fully-locked sandbox iframe (sandbox="" - no scripts, no same-origin), so a
script-bearing .eml can never execute in-origin. Reuses the email_viewer locale
namespace (no new keys).
The header open-in-new-tab button opened the blob: URL as a top-level
navigation for any preview that produced an objectUrl, including HTML and
SVG attachments. Blob URLs inherit our origin, so a script-bearing
attachment (text/html, image/svg+xml, ...) would execute in-origin when
opened that way - the exact case isMimeTypeSafeForInlinePreview() already
guards. Gate the button on that helper so it only appears for inert types
(images except SVG, audio, video, PDF, text/plain).
- MIME: Stalwart's download endpoint often returns application/octet-stream, so
blob: previews silently downloaded (UUID filename) instead of rendering.
Resolve the most specific MIME (attachment type -> filename ext -> blob type)
and re-wrap the blob; also fixes inline preview for images and video.
- Desktop PDF: render via <iframe> (reliable for blob: PDFs) instead of <object>.
- Mobile PDF: no usable inline viewer (Android shows a blank frame / silent
download; iOS Safari renders only the first page of a PDF in an <iframe>), so
render with pdf.js (canvas, dynamic-imported so it stays off the desktop
bundle; iOS-safe canvas cap). Double-tap zoom (fit -> 2x -> 3x -> fit) and
2-finger pinch zoom (to 4x), both centred on the gesture and pannable via
native scrolling.
- Route to pdf.js when navigator.pdfViewerEnabled is false (Android) and on iOS
(incl. iPadOS, which reports true yet shows only the first page in a frame).
- Modal header gains an open-in-new-tab icon (next to download/close); the
Android/browser Back button closes the preview instead of navigating the page.
- On a pdf.js render failure, offer an open-in-new-tab action as fallback.
- Implement JMAP FileNode client methods (get, query, list, create,
update, destroy, copy) with Stalwart-compatible flat name encoding
- Add FileNode/FileNodeFilter types to JMAP type definitions
- Create file-store with Zustand for file management state (navigate,
upload, delete, rename, move, cut/copy/paste, undo, favorites)
- Add folder tree sidebar component for sidebar navigation layout
- Add files settings dialog and settings page component with options
for view mode, sort, icons, thumbnails, hidden files, folder layout
- Update files page and file browser to support JMAP FileNode backend
alongside WebDAV, with folder layout switching and settings integration
- Add settings tab for files configuration in the settings page
- Add translation keys for file settings, calendar subscriptions,
identity deletion, contact deletion, email navigation, and
reconnection messages across all 8 locales
- Change WebDAV file storage to File storage in availability messages
- Enhance translations test to verify source-referenced keys exist in
the en locale
- Fix duplicate JSX attribute in folder-tree-sidebar
Add a new Files section powered by WebDAV for browsing, uploading,
downloading, renaming, and deleting files and folders.
New features:
- WebDAV file browser with grid/list views and breadcrumb navigation
- File upload (drag-and-drop and button), folder creation, rename, delete
- File preview modals for images and other file types
- WebDAV proxy API route to handle authentication
- Navigation rail entry for Files (auto-hidden when WebDAV is unsupported)
Auth improvements:
- Fix premature redirects on calendar, contacts, and settings pages by
adding explicit auth check on mount before redirecting to login
- Persist active settings tab in localStorage
Other:
- Expose getAuthHeader() and getServerUrl() on JMAPClient
- Add WebDAV store with connection testing and capability detection
- Add i18n translations for file browser in all 8 locales (de, en, es,
fr, it, ja, nl, pt)
