tests: remove a leftover 'running' flag (#8216)

The 'running' boolean was replaced with a semaphore in commit
f0e2bb79b2, but this initialization was missed. Remove it so that if a
test tries to access it, you get an error rather than always claiming
that the endpoint is not running.
