Drafts save to IndexedDB, which commits after the hand-back returns, while the outbox copy of the message was removed at once. A crash in between lost the text. Now every hand-back (a send's answer, the journal, Stop, closing a chat, an older build's entry) commits the entry marked `returning` first, writes the draft, and removes the entry, firing its ending (which clears its notes), only once storage confirms the draft. A refused save keeps it returning. A returning entry is never sent again (its id proved no record, so a resend would be a new first send), holds nothing up and draws nothing. On load, one still marked re-runs its hand-back, which the draft's suffix rule and image id check make safe to repeat, then leaves once saved. The notes-side wait from the previous commit goes: the ending itself now fires only after the draft is saved.
