chore(ai-sessions): drop the sidebar draft cue
The cue read manager.instructions as the user's unsent text, but the composer's draft is AIChatInput-local state the picker cannot see, and with the field now owned by sendRequestImpl it is non-empty only inside a send — where the status dot already says streaming. The one state that could still light it is text leaked by a pre-flight refusal, so the cue could only ever surface an artifact. Removed per the PR's conveniences rule rather than re-pointed at state that does not exist. fix(ai-sessions): give the catch-up failure path the same supersession answer
The catch block was the one probe-less way to arm a retry: a catch-up whose loadPastChat threw after a newer turn-end queued would schedule a retry carrying its stale chat id, which could then supersede the newer catch-up and re-adopt — and re-persist — the chat the driver rotated away from. The catch now makes the same supersession check the 'unavailable' path already sits behind, so a superseded failure leaves the gate and the retry to the catch-up that owns them. Also makes the latestWins failure case actually fail: both run calls were synchronous, so the throwing task was skipped as superseded and the catch went unexercised. A tick between them lets it throw, and the suite now asserts the error was seen as well as the follow-up running. fix(ai-sessions): make sendRequestImpl the prompt field's only writer
The option-passing contract lived in the field's doc while the impl kept the old conditional — a future caller staging the field would get the old semantics back with no failing test. The assignment is now unconditional: the turn's prompt is exactly what the options carry, text a failed earlier turn left behind cannot ride a send that passed none, and a caller that stages anyway fails loudly at the empty-draft check instead of subtly at the next refusal race. The test fixtures that staged the field are converted to pass their prompt in the options, so the whole suite now runs through the enforced path; the three that still write the field directly do so deliberately, to pin that refusals and explicit-empty sends leave it alone. Also rewrites the two reader comments that still called the field the user's unsent draft (the composer's text is AIChatInput-local), and moves the resend-context rationale next to the option it documents. fix(ai-sessions): hold the catch-up gate across every await and cancel a stale retry
Two edges of the round-18 serialization, both in the same seam: - The superseded() probe ran after reloadChat but not after loadPastChat, which also awaits (image hydration). A catch-up overtaken during that await still settled the caught-up gate, unlocking the composer over a transcript missing the newer turn for as long as the queued catch-up was still reading. Re-probed before caughtUp is set, so a superseded catch-up leaves the gate to the one that owns it. Every await in applyTurnEnd is now followed by a probe before any write or release. - The unavailable-store retry re-queued carrying its own turn-end's chat id, and newest-queued-wins let that stale retry supersede a newer turn-end's catch-up — re-adopting and re-persisting the chat a /clear had rotated away from. A newly queued catch-up now cancels any pending retry; the new task schedules its own if it needs one, so a retry can no longer outlive its turn-end. Also trims a test comment that repeated the executor contract documented on createLatestWins. fix(ai-sessions): serialize turn-end catch-ups so a stale reload cannot land last
applyTurnEnd ran unversioned and concurrent: two turn-ends close together started two async re-reads, and the slower one (an image-heavy loadPastChat) could finish after a newer catch-up had adopted a later chat — putting the conversation the driver already left back on screen and, through onChatRotated, back into the shared record. A /clear followed quickly by its catch-up was the visible case. Catch-ups now go through a per-session latest-wins serial queue: tasks for one session run strictly in order, a catch-up superseded before its turn is skipped, and one already reading stops at a checkpoint after reloadChat instead of writing. All three entry points (turn-end, driver-lost, the unavailable-store retry) queue through it. The queue is its own small primitive with tests pinning the ordering, the supersession skip, the in-flight probe, and that one failed task does not strand the ones behind it. fix(ai-sessions): pass prompts to sends instead of staging the shared field
Two sends can race the run guard, and the loser's refusal ran while the winner was mid-turn: restoreRefusedSend resolved the prompt from this.instructions — which the winner may already own — handed that text back, and blanked the field the winner still reads for its bubble and its outgoing message. The unconditional clear turned that race into an empty turn on a transcript a retry had already rewound. Every sender now passes its prompt in the options (retry/edit, AI Fix, Ask AI, background-job auto-resume, the raw-app hand-off page), so the field is written only by sendRequestImpl and a refusal touches nothing it does not own. Auto-resume drops its conditional unwind — with nothing staged there is nothing to leak on a refusal. Also trims the retry test's comment down to its assertions and adds a case pinning that a refusal parks its own prompt and leaves a concurrent winner's field untouched. The migration marks existing rows with a sentinel; the first pass returns the ones the old cursor had not reached to the queue. * feat: make the service log retention period an instance setting Service log retention was a hardcoded 14 days with no override, unlike job retention. It becomes the `service_log_retention_secs` global setting (env `SERVICE_LOG_RETENTION_SECS`, default unchanged at 14 days), reloaded on change like the other retention settings. The constant becomes `DEFAULT_SERVICE_LOG_RETENTION_SECS` and every reader goes through `service_log_retention_secs()`, so the `log_file` sweep, the object-storage orphan scan, the columnar store's compaction and pruning, the retrieval clamp and the search index's trim window all follow the configured value. Loaded outside `initial_load`'s `server_mode` guard: a dedicated indexer trims the search index to a window derived from this value and is not a server. Service logs always have a window, so clamp an unusable value back to the default in the accessor every reader already goes through. The upper bound is where `chrono::Duration::seconds` panics, which would abort the sweep that reads it. The settings field rejects a non-positive value rather than silently correcting it, and its description now names the database rows too — they are swept on every instance, including one with no object storage configured. The previous ceiling only bounded `TimeDelta` construction, while consumers compute `now - retention`, which panics past year 262143, and build a Postgres interval that overflows well before the old cap. The settings field carries the upper bound too, and the superseded query's offline entry is dropped.
